I am writing to give you some information that may be to your advantage.

You are now in charge of the England football team. This means that you are allowed to pick whoever you want for the team. You don't have to pick the same old tried and tested duffers that Capello chose, you are even allowed to drop Stewart Downing.

Perhaps you are unaware of two players who may be to your advantage.

If you drive out of The Emirates and take the M11 up to Cambridge, you will find a road leading off this called the A11. Now please don't be put off by the caravans and tractors and persevere through Elveden because it leads eventually to a city you may not have heard of called Norwich.

Now Norwich have got a football team (i'm sure this is news to you) and recently they have got quite good, largely thanks to the presence of a Centre forward called Grant Holt. Now this may be a shock to you but not only is he English but he also scores lots of goals in the Premier league and sets up others too. Now I know he doesn't play for Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Man City or Arsenal but he actually cares about his football, giving 100% (you know like England players used to do before they got too much money) and playing well against some of the aforementioned teams. There are one or two of us down here who think you should select him instead of Carrol or Defoe or Heskey or anyone else you have your eye on. As a clincher, i've heard he's quite keen on the Sex pistols.

I hope you're sitting down because we also have a good English goalkeeper who gets first team football and has been highly praised by many managers. I know he doesn't play for a giant of World football like Bursaspor but he may be worth a look.

With Rooney out as well the obvious choice is Graham and of course Holt

The actual Choice will of course be Carroll (Who was AMAZING today......) and of course Emile Heskey

No imagination, unable to take risks, unable to abapt. It's the reason England have failed for years. That and a succession of uninspiring managers that couldn't give a ****
 
I don't really know what Holt has to do. He can hardly just make himself ten years younger, but he's a good player right now so I really don't see what harm it can do. I'd rather have a good player in that side than someone who may one day become one/once was one but isn't anymore.

Maybe if he slept with Adam Drury's ex-wife he'd get in?
 
So Campbell, Sturridge and Welbeck are definitely in. Pearce will either a) leave it as it is and only go with three forwards or b) select Defoe and Carroll as replacements

On a side note, does anyone think Holt would've missed the sitter Welbeck did today?
 
in a greedy way im happy holt and ruddy havent made the international call up. They both deserve it, but they're so vital for us at the moment, i'd be distraught if they picked up an injury in a friendly international. But thats pretty selfish of me i know

Holt cares about playing much like Pearce appeared to back in the day. Very few others showed more passion than Pearce. That's why i'm surprised he'd stand for anything less than 100% from his team. Holt deserves it but I suspect Graham would get the neutral's nod given age factor. Brilliant goal today - absolutely international-level opportunistic belter!!
 
To be fair Pearce has put in new players, he selected Frazier Campbell. For me though I would have picked both Danny Graham and Grant Holt ahead of him, both players have got more PL goals than Campbell and thats just this season in the case of Graham and Holt.
 
I doubt many strikers have scored at Anfield, Stamford Bridge and at home vs Man Utd.... however Pearce I doubt will pick him. Maybe Holt will need to score a hattrick every game from now on or make 20 goals this year to stand a chance? He's in form, scoring lots of goals, unsettles defenders, setting up goals... looks like he stands a chance... plays for Norwich... definitly not pick him then!
 
Holt would have score a Hat-trick at Man city, Liverpool and Man u, whilst walking on his hands whilst playing the banjo with his feet. And even then he might only just make the bench.

Ruddy would have to be blindfolded, have his hands tied behind his back and given lead boots to wear and win a penalty shoot out with no goals going in.

They (the fa) only pick players from top 6 teams normally. Pearce has at least changed things a bit, it's still bad but hey, that's England and the FA.

It's the old chestnut of, oooooooohhhh he plays for arsenal he must be good.
 
I find it funny that he is now the top scoring englishman in the premiership but doesn't get picked, but danny welbeck who has 2 goals in the league since 2nd october does cause he plays for man united....

Rooney is the top with 17, then Graham and Holt on 10. Next to that is Bent on 9.

But i know i am completely biased and may even be wrong. But from the little i have seen, i think Holt adds far more to the team than Graham does.

In fairness Graham has scored the same amount as Holt, but Holt has had much less time on the pitch.
 
No other English striker can do want Holty does to such a high standard. He offers something different and he would sweat blood playing for his country. If Holt receives good service he will score goals at any level. He has scored against United, Chelsea and Liverpool, so I can't see him having issues scoring against Ukraine...

Of course we are all scared of losing him to a bigger club but I always wish the best for the big man. He has done so much for our club and I believe he has earnt an opportunity to wear the 3 lions.

They've both scored 10, Holt every 144 mins on avg, and Graham every 191.

So that's combined transfer fees of under 4 million quid for 20 goals coming at a rate of one every 167 mins.

Or you could pay 85 million quid for Torres and Carroll who between them have 5 goals, at an average time of one every 527 minutes!

Goalkeepers:
Scott Carson (Bursaspor) Shocking choice, Ruddy is in-form and should be rewarded, saving against 3rd-rate strikers in Turkey shouldn't impress
Joe Hart (Manchester City) Great potential and already a reliable england player
Robert Green (West Ham United) Give him another chance, better than Stockdale for sure

Defenders:
Gary Cahill (Chelsea) Give him a chance, he'll improve with Terry being injured at Chelsea
Ashley Cole (Chelsea) World class
Leighton Baines (Everton) Reliable back-up
Glen Johnson (Liverpool) Putting in better performances, getting confidence back
Phil Jones (Manchester United) most exciting defensive prospect, great career ahead
Micah Richards (Manchester City) Give him a chance, unfairly frozen out by Capello
Chris Smalling (Manchester United) Future star, and long-term CB partner for Jones
Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur) Future star and mainstay of the RB position

Please consider Naughton, he has done brilliantly this season, and he wouldn't let anyone down

NO NO NO to the dinosaurs Terry and Ferdinand ever returning

Midfielders:
Gareth Barry (Manchester City) Old, slow, should retire internationally
Tom Cleverley (Manchester United) Shame he is injured, strong potential
Stewart Downing (Liverpool) Improving performances as of late, encouraging
Adam Johnson (Manchester City) Must continue to find match-time to be considered
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) Strong leadership qualities, good vision
James Milner (Manchester City) Must continue to find match-time to be considered
Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur) One guaranteed name on the 1st XI sheet
Ashley Young (Manchester United) Over-rated
Theo Walcott (Arsenal) Slowly but surely, more encouraging performances arriving

Please consider Oxlade-Chamberlain and obviously, Wilshere is a shoe-in when he returns

Forwards:
Darren Bent (Aston Villa) How many chances does this waste of space need? Dispatch.
Fraizer Campbell (Sunderland) Worth a look in
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) Future potential, greater than Welbeck
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) Shoe-in, world class, match-winner
Danny Welbeck (Manchester United) Needs another season at Man Utd, not ready for England atm IMO

Please consider either Holt or Graham, they deserve a call-up in recognition of their hard graft, and neither would disappoint

If only, we had secured Graham earlier in the summer, can you imagine what a devastating partnership, they would form!
