Leaving aside your assumptions that Adebayor and Modric will leave, what makes you think that we won't be able to replace them?

I dont see how you will be able to. Defoe is a million miles behind ade and I am not sure there are many cm in the world who can replace modric.

And you don't think that we'd have any money to invest?

Irrelevent. There are only so many of those players around and none of them are for sale.

We've already rejected bids from Chelsea for Modric, the highest being £40mill so I think we can expect a significant warchest for improving the team, if he were sold. I still don't see it happening, last summer he only wanted to move to Chelsea and that temptation will be reduced if we finish above them.

So where did we get Modric from, then?

On the exceptionally unlikely chance that we lose our collective mind and sell him, there's...

    Mario Gotze
    Keisuke Honda
    Milan Badelj
    Aaron Ramsey

...who all play a similar game to Modric in a similar position.

Badelj will likely leave for the right fee, failing to qualify for the CL could see Ramsey as part of the exodus, and Gotze is likely to leave Dortmund sooner rather than later.

    You actually rate Aaron Ramsey?

    Ramsey's a talented youngster, SJW.
He's still recovering from a long-term injury and I'm not sure that Wenger gets the best out of him.
He seems to play well consistently for Wales, though he's erratic for Arsenal.

Who's he supposed to be learning from?

Put him alongside a midfielder capable of tackling (like Scott Parker or Sandro) and he'd be picking out his teammates with his range of passing remarkably effectively. We know this from experience - Huddlestone was remarkably effective paired with Palacios, not so much alongside Zokora or Jenas.

I do rate Ramsey as well. Was a bit shocked when someone else felt the same on here (a Spurs fan). I been defending Ramsey from the untold abuse he gets on our board. I think he has played too many games and Wenger made a mistake by not replacing Fabregas with someone with more experience and giving Ramsey time to learn. He has been thrown in the deep end and while he has had his moments this season he has also had some shocking games. Maybe our fans expected the same consistency they witnessed from the likes of Fabregas at the same age and even Wilshere to a lesser extent last year. Ramsey is clearly developing like a normal youngster and should be given time.

Huddlestone used to get a lot of abuse on Old606 three or four seasons back, and frequently appeared on lists of players that needed to be shipped out in the summer, instead of posters recognising that Zokora was in no way a replacement for Edgar Davids - a situation not remedied until we brought in Palacios - and that was affecting the time he had on the ball.

That was one of the many problems Comolli caused, as Jol repeatedly asked for a defensive midfielder to be brought in, and his requests were ignored (with attacking midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng signed instead), or Zokora was brought in to replace the loss of Zokora and carrick.

He avoided that situation entirely at Liverpool though, Croydon.
He brought in Henderson and nobody knows what the hell he's supposed to be!

When asked what position he played, Comolli probably responded "English."

I still expect Ramsey to be a quality player if given the time with your lot. You're spot on that he's been overused as he's not at a high enough level for you guys at the moment and given that the rest of the team is not performing he's simply not experienced enough to be that guy that drags everyone else's performance up.

  17. And I thought that Oxo was the biggest Muppet on the Arsenal board..........
Methinks you should be focussing more on the current dire state of your own little club matey!!

  18. That's not it.

PNP will ban Spurs supporters, but not vexatious Gooner wums.

There. I have corrected it for you.

Merely sparking some debate mate. No reason to be pathetic about it. Life is full of people who have different opinions to you, so you better get used to respecting those opinions or you wont be a very happy person.

Back to the point.....modric specifically said in the xmas peroid that he wasnt leaving THIS transfer window. Suggested to me he will leave in the summer. Also why else would he not sign a new deal with you boys. If he is commited to the spuds it makes sense that he would sign a 100k a week deal now rather than get paid half that this year....

Adebayoor is leaving because he will want 120k a week or more. You cant afford that so he will go. Whether VdV will leave when modric goes is anyones guess. But I suspect he will hang around to see who you buy. Bale also isnt committed to you. He came out with a statement when he was linked with barca and real saying he was flattered. I have seen it 1000 times. He used the sort of language which said he would love to go there. He didnt say "I have no intention of leaving spuds as I am very happy here".

Really guys, I am just saying what I think. The evidence above backs me up imo

Modric fancied CL football with Chelsea in the summer, do you honestly think he still wants to go there? <yikes> Who is more likely to stay at their club, Modric or RVP?.....now go away you silly little boy. <doh>
