The recent terrific performances from Jos got me wondering who would get our vote as Saints all time best defender. We've had some great ones over recent years. Chris Nicholl, Dave Watson, Mark Wright, Killer and Claus, Razor Ruddock, Mark Psycho Dennis etc etc.

Who has been your favourite and why?

Plenty of characters abound at CB in a Saints shirt [yes Godders, Jim Steele, John McGrath, etc...], but the best ones have been those that have played at the highest level - International. So we're probably talking about Dave Watson, Mark Wright, Michael Svensson as the best three. My opinion would be that Mark Wright is probably the very best of those. Mind you, once he left Saints for Liverpool, MLT made him look a tad silly, on occasion. But then MLT made plenty of CBs look silly at one time or another.

Got to be Mark Wright for me , followed by Mark Dennis the best left back of his generation not to get an England cap....think he might have had a few issues with his temper!

Maybe not the best but your namesake was handy and scored an unforgetable goal...trouble is I cant remember who it was against! Leathered in and able to read the writing on the ball all the way

Without doubt Mark Dennis was the best left back of his generation either to not get a cap, or get a cap!!! I only went with the other two because of his alleged temper.
