I was thinking how some players go back to their previous clubs and play well: Pienar for example went back to the bluenoses whne he didn't settle with the spuds, and played well (in his first match anyway). Would we take Torres back? I was wondering how he and Suarez might complement each other in our attack. But Torres's slide from being the best striker in world football (when he was playing for us) to a mediocre to average premiership striker for the chavs is just unbelievable. £50 million? I think his confidence is so shot that he is not worth even a small fraction of that now.
Yes it works sometimes Pienaar being the latest example lets see if he carries on like that or it was just because of the occasion. As for Torres yes the old Torres but not like he is now, the way he is at present he does not even warrant 5mil£.Like you said CarltheJackel his confidence is shot The first 2-3 months of his departure i was laughing me head that he could not find form now i actually feel sorry for the lad,but the answer to your question Would i have him back A BIG FAT NO AND NO REFUNDS
I totally agree with this. Football is played on the pitch, not in the boardroom. FSG or Standard Chartered will never win us a game. Suarez will. I can't believe some people would be willing to sell our only potential match winner. Successful sides never sell their best players until they have got all they need out of them ON THE PITCH. Much as I hate to say it Ferguson was spot on in the way he handled Cantona, Ferdinand etc. You must support your players, not drive them away from the club.
I did not say we should sell him. However, to date he has not exactly shown a lot of loyalty to the club nor to Kenny who has gone out on a limb to protect him. Kenny was put in a terrible situation when he said to all that he had drawn a line under the recent events and the club was moving on. I wouldn't be surprised if Suarez himself decided to go elsewhere and I wouldn't blame the owners, the club or Kenny for that. Thw owners have backed Kenny to the hilt and I think it is out of order for fans to give them stick for what they have done.
Where have the fans given Kenny or the club stick? From the many threads on this board the majority of posters have railed against the injustice of the process, the hearing and the report - let alone the penalty. Suarez is a Liverpool player. He is a very good Liverpool player. Whilst he remains a Liverpool player (and I expect him to remain so) he should get all of our support. The club have stood by Suarez and they will continue to do so. As for Suarez himself - it will be a good test of his attitude and commitment.
100% agreed. Don't even know why we are debating this. There's no top striker that will come to Liverpool right now. A top striker will go to Manu, man city, spurs, Chelsea before they come to us. Top strikers wanna play with great players and unfortunately we don't have those at the moment, selling our best player won't help the cause.
Agreed - we can't be intimidated into a sale - that would be madness. Also very true - no matter who left the club (Owen, McManaman, Fowler) we have always gone on and, for the better part, improved the squad after they left... This is also true - the disreputable imbeciles purporting to be football journalists have a lot to answer for with their attitude of "2+2=104" Beckham, Stam, Cristiano Ronaldo... FSG and Dalglish wouldn't tell the press they were even going to entertain bids for Suarez. They suggested that they weren't going to entertain bids for Torres last year... Agreed- you don't sell your best players (plural), but you can sell one for a hefty profit and re-invest in two more top drawer players. Which is what we did with the Torres money. Football has changed to a degree that most of us sometimes forget. It IS a business - and one where we can't allow our hearts to rule our heads if we want to avoid any more MacManamans and Owens. If PSG or Real came in and offered us £40mil, I would expect the club to say "Thanks very much for your service, but its on our best interests (and if we're honest, it probably won't do Suarez' mental health any harm to get away from the corrosive atmosphere some opposition fans bring with them) to accept the offer. He's not a home-grown player in terms of counting towards limits. there is no attachment in that regard. There have been plenty of moans and groans about how we've bought some 'ordinary brits' - but if we had to replace Suarez, we could do so with foreign flair. Finally, for those still wedded to the idea we can't be successful without him, we put both Citeh and United out of the cups without him - we can manage. As it has been said, and please don't misunderstand - but No player is greater than the club. The whole surpasses the individual. Always.
Well said. We can be passionate Liverpool fans while at the same time being rational and without being paranoid. If Suarez asked to go AND we get a good sum, we should let him go. No one is bigger than the club and life without Suarez will go on. We did very well without him. Some fans were in despair when Torres left. I always thought that we do not want to keep any player who does not want to be here. Anyone thinks we were wrong about Torres? We live in the real world. If City offered Suarez double what he is paid at our club, does any one think he will even think for one second?
You think Lucas is "...bang ordinary." Clearly wrong. Lucas is international quality as a defensive midfielder. Still, will we see a retraction of your previous opinion? I doubt it. You're David "Smugs" Schofield... You thought that Hooliganism was dealt with by introducing pens - this did nothing to to deal with it, it just meant the police didn't have to deal with pitch invasions. Stupid statement of yours, that one. Your prediction for Chelsea finishing 3rd looks decidedly bad now - you must be praying the FA do you a favour and insist Harry takes the job exclusively and now... You thought the Barcodes were a decent prospect for relegation. And while you caveat'd the statement "Andy Carroll will go down as the biggest waste of money ever" with the immortal "imo" - you have obviously already forgotten Andriy Shevchenko, and Torres is doing his best to take that title from the Ukrainian... To borrow form Einstein "Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods" - indeed!
I understand that PSG will definitely make an offer because they want a high profile player and Real are also considering a bid. There is no doubt in my mind that he is a great player. He could have a better finishing rate but he creates lots of chances. We need someone to replace Torres's striking rate and complement him if he is still around. If we get £36-40 million, then we should let him go and use the money to strengthen the team.
My opinion on Lucas stands. You have completely misrepresented what I said about Pens dealing with Hooliganism, never said that, what I said was that they were there solely as a result of it. If you want to debate this, do it with someone else, it is a fact. Chelsea may well get 3rd. I can't remember what I predicted, but Citeh/United 1 and 2 Chelsea 3rd, Spuds 4th, Arsenal 5th, Liverpool 6th is my pretty much how I saw it. Yep, Newcastle have stunned me with their performance this season, got that one totally wrong. Along with 99.9% of the population. Andy Carroll is a good Player, lower level Premier League/Ambitious Championship. The £35M, the 8th most expensive Transfer Fee in the history of the game at the time, will go down as the biggest waste of money ever. All about opinions, Shevchenko was diabolical, but you could at least see why they spent that money based on his track record, it just didn't work out. Same applies to Torres. Shocking buys in retrospect. Carroll was a shocking buy full stop. Is that it? Because I seem to remember being slaughtered for pretty much everything I have written on here. Seems at odds with 'Newcastle look like a decent relegation bet' and Lucas is alright.???????
Here's a suggestion for you then. Don't write anything on here By the way, Lucas is an outstanding player.
No Wide Players Yet - In the English Window = Quality Foreigners Mata,Cazorla,Jeffren,Hazard???? Me: Dear Me. Champions League. Not in it, not going to get that level of Player without it. Get used to it,. DayDoDoeDontDayDoe: I have a feelin that in a few weeks , that will have made youself look very silly when we sign 1 or maybe more of those names!!! Ze Liverbird: You do realise Jeffren came out and said he is flattered Liverpool have approached him, implying he wouldn't mind playing for them, despite the fact he's a squad player in the current best team in the world.
Me: Liverpool's 1st XI needs plenty of work. Their 2nd XI is pathetic in comparison with last Season's Top 3 Nowhere near League Champions, and a great distance to go before a return to 4th can be seriously considered imo KingPepeReina: That can be sorted. However Merc Citys problems can't be solved as easily. The only way to solve Citys problems would be to sack Mancini and appoint a good manager. Me: I would have agreed with you about Mancini last year, I thought he was just another Benitez, simply too negative to win the League in England, but he had them playing some very good football after Christmas, and he achieved what was asked of him. I think they might find the combination of Champions League/Premier League tricky, as did Spurs, but they will have the Squad to cope. If they prioritise the Prem, they could win it, no doubt about it. KingPepeReina: Now for a lot of teams finishing third and winning the FA Cup would be an achievement. However it isn't when you've outspent the entire league twice over. Man City have the squad to win the league with the exception of Balotelli,Dzeko and Lescott who are all useless. They don't have the manager.Until they sack Mancini and appoint a good manager, they won't finish any higher.
