I was sauntering through our fair city the day after the win in Wales with the sun shining around the Forum and it got me thinking about how good it is to be a denzien of the capital of the East with our team doing brilliantly. I then thought about the poor souls down the road and how vast the difference between us and them:

    Immediate thoughts were:

    Premier league v Championship
    Solvent v Skint
    Promising future v quality past
    Holt v Chopra
    City vs Town
    Two Cathedrals to Nil
One beautifully preserved norman keep to nil
Immaculate town centre with modern buioldings such as the Forum blending in effortlessly with well preserved historic sites v poundland, bookies and cash converters

Really it's little wonder a lot of us are walking around with very contented expressions. Just need to get Adnams (Broadside is too good to be brewed in Suffolk!) to move their HQ to the city and then all will be well. Maybe we could swap Theford for Southwold to concentrate the good bits of the East into Norfolk (I may even throw Diss in as well:smile:).

Any reasons I have missed or maybe there are some highlights in Ipswich (such as you do have more serial killers than us) I have not stumbled upon?

I live in Southwold. Seriously, you don't want it!
Yeah it's lovely and quaint and everything, and Adnams ain't bad at all (just don't have too many explorers too quickly!) but it all comes at a price: TOURISTS. I can barely move in my own town these days, and they treat us locals like servants, as though Southwold is some sort of theme park.

As for the Adnams pubs.... Jeez what a rip off. We have 4 in town, and the cheapest pint of lager is around £3.40. For a premium lager it pretty much £4 a go these days. I would honestly rather have a weatherspoons!

Also we now have a Tesco and a WHSmiths, so it's no better/worse than anywhere else really.

Lets stick to the football banter and not descend into comparing serial killers!

I went to Ipswich recently for a graduation from UCS. Ipswich town centre is a complete hole, seems to consist of pound shops and charity shops. Went to the ucs building by the harbor bit. Talk about polishing a turd! You can't just put a coffee shop in the middle of industrial wasteland and think you can get away with it. Now Norwich with riverside, forum, castle and city centre are far superior.

I won't mention cathedrals, or the fact it's the economic heartland of the east of England.

nobody with half a brain cell could realistically argue that ipswich is a nicer place than norwich!!

what ipswich fans will argue is that they won three trophies back in the last century, therefore they are superior. thats fine if you're happy to live in a hole filled with 'shiny stuff' but its not for me thanks - nor most of their locals who dessert the area as soon as they can afford a pair of wheels <ok>

Do you make these up yourself?

Cambridge is the economic heartland and powerhouse of East Anglia. All Norwich has is a mustard factory!

Sorry to offend JWM - was aiming to generate banter rather than cause genuine offience.

Should not have cited the Mr Kipling Killer and will refrain from referring to him in future.

Did feel I had shown some balance citing your undeniable past glories and quality beer, both of which I would love to have.
