sorry warky but cambridge is most definitely not the economic heartland of east anglia - norwich is. educational maybe...

i like cambridge actually - its one of my favourite places in britain, not just east anglia

Another interesting statistic:
Out of the 3 counties that make up East Anglia ie Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk - Norfolk has the lowest disposable annual income per head then the other 2! I think it blows your economic heartland claim out of the water.

Apart from the base of a couple of TV studios and a regional office hub for a couple of other companies what else actually is there that makes Norwich the economic heartland of East Anglia? Ipswich has the docks and a close link with Felixstowe which is the country's largest container port.

I too rather like Cambridge. As well as a decent uni it also has lots of bicycles and science parks.

If we are quoting statistics (as well as lies and damned lies) then the Vatican City is statistically the most crime ridden city in Europe.

Why has nobody come up with a single thing to support Ipswich - I don't particularly rate the place but surely there must be something there the locals take pride in?

If there was a pressing economic imperative for Norwich to be linked to the Motorway network it would have happened by now!

With regards to Ipswich you are quite right it isn't a pleasant place to live but the county of Suffolk is an idylic place. The problem with threads like this is that it is totally subjective but when claims are made about Norwich being the powerhouse economy of East Anglia it is simply laughable!

Lol Cambridge is fine if you want a panini, latte and to ride home looking like a twat on a poncey pushbike!

But Norwich is indeed the economic centre of the east of England. It's a fact. All the Chinese kids paying top-up fees at Cambridge can't equal what Norwich earns.
