Pardew on England

Latest comments from the Newcastle boss, Thursday:

"Firstly as an Englishman, I am proud to be in that sort of frame, but it's not for me and I will make that quite clear.

"I am not even in the running as far as I am concerned. I am very happy here at Newcastle. It's a little project here that's going really well and I want to see it through.

"The passion and everything about this place is why I want to stay here.

"I do hope it goes to an Englishman, just on a personal level. I think that's important this time. I really hope Harry and Spurs and everybody sorts themselves out and can do it in a manner that it works for everybody."

No fool.

a. He won't be offered it, so it's better to turn them down than be turned down;

b. If he were offered it, he'd be mad to take it. He's building a nice reputation for himself at Newcastle and has a secure job. England are going to bomb in the summer. He doesn't want to do a Mclaren (club hero to international zero by way of the England post)>

I was just quoting, calm down Mr T.

I think it'll be Harry. The only sticking point is whether Spurs will allow him to do it on a part time basis. Certainly would not be my choice as I think we'll go backwards with the likes of Terry, Lampard and the ones who need left behind being first choice under him. Its a bit of a poisoned chlaice really, who'd want the job when you'll be undermined like that.

Got more respect for Capello than ever. Put his principles over money and did well to disassociate himself from our comical footballing body. We really are going to be badly prepared unless they do the sensible thing and give Pearce the job who at least knows the current system, the mistakes made in SA, recent tournament management experience and a burning ambition for his country to do well. I liked Capello, a top boss. Only lost two competitive games and was badly let down by the players at crunch time (Rooney mainly). The problem is in this country we're very impatient. The rest of Europe know we're behind technically but we refuse to accept it. We can never seem to let an international boss have more than one or two tournaments in charge so they can improve. Just because the guys you employ in international roles are at the top of the game, doesn't mean they stop learning.

Capello had started to blood the next generation and seemed likely to take a good mix this summer, I hope we don't get Saggy Harry going for one last drink in the last chance saloon with the so called golden generation

This, the media are jumping on his back and accusing him of siding with a racist which is ludicrous. He FA made a judgement on Terry before the court had, and in doing so had undermined Capello. I wouldn't have stuck around for that.
What is really boiling my blood is sections of the media claiming a big victory over Capello. "we got rid of him and it didn't cost the compensation". <grr> ****ing parasites like, they were the ones clamouring to voice how successful England would be with him in charge.

Just the way it is I suppose. The real shame is half the country read this **** in the papers, believe it and start spouting it as gospel. Facts suggest he did pretty well and I thought we took significant steps forward under him.

What will be funny is if they give to Harry and he flops in the summer (not what I want of course, but its what we deserve). I think it likely he will to because we're not that good. And by flop I mean he doesn't win because that is what was expected of Capello, so its the same for Harry or whoever assumes control, and that is what they'd have us believe will happen the moment you put an englishman in man. I want an englishman but until the top clubs in this country start giving the top jobs to english managers it'll be difficult. That's why Pards and Harry are so far up the list, they'd had a chance.

Of course Harry will get more rope off the press. "he didn't have enough time with them" "he was working with Capello's team" "Capello had done too much damage to turn it around" blah blah blah. We can't see the wood for the trees in this country when it comes to international football. We're a joke and they wonder why people don't have the same passion for the national team. We couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

We'll have to see about the compensation. I would think he would have a pretty good case for constructive dismissal if he can be bothered suing for a mere £2 million. I'm pretty sure that it's the manager's job to pick the captain

He would but I doubt he'd go down that route. Strikes me as a very honourable person. I think he cared deeply about the job and making a success of it. I think he wanted to do something that would benefit us long term and would view taking money from the situation as slightly skewed. He'd certainly have a case and just like KK with us, I'd not hold it against him if he decided to fight his corner. I just think Capello is disappointed with the betrayal rather looking to see what he can get out of it. He seems pretty level headed and wouldn't be the sort to let emotion about being stabbed in the back make him vengeful.

JAnd by flop I mean he doesn't win because that is what was expected of Capello

I don't think that's true of most England fans, what was expected was a better showing than we were given though. Losing to Germany was fine, they clearly had better players. The 3 pathetic performances against worse teams in the group stage was inexcusable from a manager of Capello's reputation though.

Capello impressed me with his decision to resign. I'm fairly sure the FA engineered the situation with that in mind but he still stood up for his principles (and being innocent until proven guilty should be everyone's principle)

That said, the FA should have fired the useless **** after the World Cup

They weren't great performances but no where near as bad as the English press would have you believe. As a manager though, you're behind the 8 ball from the off when the pivotal point of your attacking moves is thinking about how he'll get off with some **** about to be printed in the papers. Not only that, but most of the squad turned up ****ed for a major tournament again because our head is buried so deep in the sand we are still to introduce a ****ing winter break! Its not ****ing rocket science afterall. English players tired - played 38 games no break. Rest of teams players fresher (bar the likes of Torres playing in the PL) - winter break and less games.

Ask yourself this, how did Capello do when the players were focused and fresh during the qualifying campaign? He gave us our best qualifying campaign for many a tournament is how he did. As I said we couldn't organise a piss up a brewery. The clowns at the FA don't understand football and are not football people, and in general the country is very arrogant about our standing in world football..

I regard the decision as partly principled and partly driven by releif to be shot of the job. I agree I doubt he will bring a claim. I wouldn't be surprised if he left with a cheque in his pocket, though.

While it's hard to be certain, I don't think the FA set out to make him resign. I jsut think they were stupid enough to ignore the rule of all organisations that you consult an employees line manager before making a major organisational decision. But then I tend to view history more as a series of **** ups than of conspiracies.

No I don't think it was a conspiracy either. They're just bumbling idiots!

I watched every minute of them - They were just as bad as the press say.

There's logistical problems with a winter break, as we have the two domestic cup competitions, whereas most countries only have one. For some teams the fixture lists already get packed between those cups, the league, and European competition, if we were to take some time out for a break then it'd be even more packed.

Capello may have done fairly well in qualifying, but the fact remains he was unable to motivate his team for performances in the WC finals, and as I've already said, for a manager of his reputation (and salary) that's inexcusable. They should have won that group with ease, instead they spluttered through it, looking like an utter joke.

Why doesn't Guus Hiddink get a mention? He'd be my number one choice for the job. Took 3 different international teams to semi-finals of major tournaments & 2 of those teams were South Korea & Australia.

Sorry fairly well does not begin to describe it, exceptional is the word when you look how tough qualifying is these days. And he hasn't managed this once, but twice. As for the excuses around winter breaks, these are the same excuses the bumbling FA reel out. It doesn't help the national team. If you're against the winter break then you have no right to complain about England failing in summer tournaments. You can't have your cake and eat it. Logisitical? Simply solved with a bit of non monetary thinking. The league cup is dropped in tournament years to aid the national side. Oh no we can't do that, we'd upset too many sponsors.

The tournament was tough going no doubt. The margins are small in international football. If your fitness is not up to scratch it will tell. Very few teams (unless you have Spain/Argentina/Germany/Holland type quality) go through tournament groups with ease. We don't and shouldn't kid ourselves we do have their talent. Fortunately Capello had started to blood the next generation who may have technical levels to compete somewhere near these teams. There very few bad international teams now. Even Spain lost to the Swiss last time round (their manager noted how poor condition the players from England were in), and the Germans were ran very close by the Ghanians. Incidentally that same Ghanian team only managed to get past the USA from Englands group after extra time. This highlights how close these games are now, and how being off your game (Rooney) or tired (the whole squad) can make it a tough examination.

I'd still have expected better and so would Capello. He performed badly, as did the players who should not be absolved of all blame. A manager can lead the horse to the water, but he can't make it drink. But what is the point in not taking the learning from the tournament and improving? Capello admitted he'd made mistakes and was keen for another shot, with the experience behind him. He was given 6 objectives and achieved them all bar getting to the QF of the 2010 cup.

We've now forced him out by undermining him and are left with an absolute shambles to sort out.
