Not very often I get to open a midweek daily thread these days but I'll do this one as a horse I've been waiting for is out.

3.40 Thurles: GO ALL THE WAY 9/4 (NAP)

Anyone from 606 Refugees website last year might remember I put this up as my 40/1 e.w selection (with Victor Chandler) for the Champion Bumper and he was a staying on 4th, very much in line with his pedigree (By Milan, who rarely has good 2m bumper recruits- they all do better over further), and I've been intrigued to see him up in trip and over hurdles ever since. Alan Potts, the owner, has got rid of Nigel Twiston-Davies (amongst others) and has all of his horses back in Ireland. He has sent Go All The Way to Jim Dreaper, a veteran of the scene and I wonder if he can get the horse to really fulfil his potential. I really hope he can win today because there is certainly the talent there. I couldnt recommend a bet because the switch of yards and hurdling debut mean it is always slightly risky. But my gut feeling is that he has been doing fine at home (They have really taken some money for him for the Albert Bartlett on Betfair, into 55s having been 200+/1 when I covered it for a £2 stake!) and I am hopeful we'll see some nice improvement up in trip.

Whatever happens, he will come on for the run.

Have a good day folks :)

Nothing for me today, you will see a change in my punting style from now on. Basically I am warming up for the turf season (2 year olds) and in the next month I am off to Towcester, Sandown and Cheltenham, so funds will be kept in the sachel and placed in a sparing manner with my new 30/70 technique.

That said, the eyes are still firmly in the formbook and if anyone would like my opinion (not likely I know) then fire away!!!

Oh, and it will be yesterdays stir fry...

Fourth in quite possibly the worst Festival Bumper ever run. Cinders aside they have let the form down almost without fail. Happy to take you on PERFECT GENTLEMAN Toppy ;-)

Morning, people. Nothing for me today but a couple do catch my eye at Wolverhampton. I see my old fave, Crowning Star, runs in a claimer (3.30) and is available via this medium for some £7k afterwards. Certainly if you’ve got a few extra pounds in the old vault I wouldn’t put you off making said claim. Think 4/5 re him today is though far too short. The second is Odd Ball in the ‘lucky last’. He was a nice winner on his debut (giving weight and a beating to horses now rated 62, 60 and 57) back in April of last year but has done little since. However, arguably ran his best race since his win last time out and with the lovely Amy Ryan in the saddle for the first time further improvement can be assured. Has also been dropped 5 pounds to a very lowly 45. No way should he be a 28/1 shot today in what is a very poor heat.

However, and I do mean however, the big news is that dear old Barbers Shop has been entered to run in a Hunters Chase next Tuesday at Folkestone! Get ready to throw those top hats in the air!

Any sign of the weather getting better anytime soon over in england folks, not a sniff of the white stuff over my end thank fook!! Do you reckon some of the chelt bound horses who were supposed to run during the week will go straight to the festivel now, doesnt really help from a punting perspective though

Anyone running a comp today ?

Over at Thurles there are a few of interest.
Firstly I'll be avoiding any Dessie Hughes runner - approaching handicap time for the festival he often stops his horses and he has a poor strike rate in 2012.

Gagewell Flyer will be all the rage in the 2.00 but at the bottom Mayo Mystique who gets the mares allowance and has a further 5lb taken off with a decent claimer, could trouble the fav and at around 8/1 is outstanding e/w value for me.

3.40 A Perfect Gentleman - I'll follow Stick here, 13/8 seems reasonable - the manner of his Cork win suggests he could be decent and despite the penalty I'll take him to follow up.

4.45 Top O the Ra - taking a flyer on the bottom one here for very little reason other than the fact I'll be on wind down and need to kill a few minutes before I leave.

    Good luck all

    Black Coffee 20/1

Think Mark Brisbourne's 7 year old looks a tad overpriced today and I wouldn't be surprised to see him back with a bang today. Black Coffee is a 5 times winner over C+D and his mark of 68 is only 1lb below his last two wins here back in February and March last year. Furthermore, he came a narrowly beaten 0.5L 3rd after his last win over C+D off a 5lb higher mark than he races off today so on that form I think he looks quite well in. In the interim period Black Coffee has been racing primarily on turf, a surface he is not as good on, but he did put all known form on that surface behind him when landing a 10f event back in Redcar at August off a mark of 64 which is an obvious bonus as it shows he's still in good form. After reverting back to the AW in November and after putting in a poor run over C+D, I was quite taken with his effort LTO over 12f at Wolves. Black Coffee made eye catching progress throughout but didn't really pick up as it looked like he would to finish a 6L beaten 7th. I get the feeling that he may not have stayed that far and returning to the trip he thrives on from a good draw in stall 2 is an obvious plus. Trainer Mark Brisbourne's horses look to be coming back in to form and he's already had a couple of winners this year so hopefully he'll have Black Coffee fully wound up. This gelding represents the trainer and jockey Tom Mclaughlin's only action of the day and if putting his best foot forward I hope that Black Coffee can land the spoils at a nice price.
