I guess that's why they call them the good old days.

    I was there.
    Was 26 at the time.
Incredible atmosphere and my Dad nearly had a heart attack with the emotion of it all.
We had been going to Roker Park since 1957, through all the dark days too, so I'm pleased he saw a major trophy (before leaving this mortal coil ten years later)
We travelled on the "Sunderland Echo" train and I think we were the first lot to arrive back at Sunderland.
Quite shocked by the crowds who had gathered to await the returning supporters... who of course had done their bit to lift the team :)

(which of course is what Quinny is saying today - the crowd needs to lift the team!)
    :)

I was 12 at the time...living in ford estate...when we scored the woman next door came out screaming and waving a rattle around..straight after the match me and my mate went up the park and did our own re-run of the game...a day I'll never forget, but I long for to happen again.

Thanks lads memories eh, what a nice read, and thanks for sharing, hope our next trip to the FA final is just on the horizon, as even now its within us to beat anyone on our day, just a bit more strength in depth for injuries and who knows.

Was at Wembley with my pregnant wife. It's my son's proud boast that he was there when the Lads lifted the Cup; -7 months and already a red and white! (Mind you my brother still grits his teeth when '73 is mentioned because he thought I would give my second ticket to him and not my wife.)

I was just a lad at the time but remember mam saying: " Get your coat" and we went up to to the A690 to see the victory parade start. Amazing scenes.

I was 12 at the time and truthfully couldn't bear to watch the game live - I hid upstairs in my bedroom and told my dad not to tell me what was happening !

I heard shouting and rushed downstairs late on to find out we'd just bundled the keeper into the net and it was disallowed. Stayed watching for the last part of the match and it was unbearable................the next 37 years haven't been any easier !!!

When they brought the cup back I stood outside the Barnes Hotel for what seemed like hours until they appeared - something I'll never forget !!

    Happy times....

Silksworth couldn't stop chuckling at the bit where you hid in the bedroom, great story, and for all you lads that weren't born, we are getting stronger each season now, I'm sure a cup is on the cards soon, so you will all get the chance to treasure the moment.

13 years old and dad rented a 26" colour telly (radio rentals). Only got delivered on that morning. Had about 20 neighbours & friends in the house.
1 lad missed the goal due to being at the toilet every few minutes.
