The article was published in the Sunday Mirror about Pienaar talking about Modric and his future herel

Does it just seem very unnecessary for him to make such a comment? I think it is and it surely won't go down well with his team mates at Spurs when (or if) he comes back.

We have to expect that stories like this will continue ad nauseam. Players are not politicians and if interviewed by the press will provide more grist to the mill for the hacks. Who knows the context of his comments or what else was discussed. It is no doubt edited to suit the purposes of the Mirror, producing another juicy tit bit to entertain their readers.

Just ask yourself how many of these stories in the press are actually true. Is it worth bothering about? Not in my opinion.

I think he's only stating the obvious really. Modric definitely wanted to leave last summer, it was only because the club blocked his move to Chelsea that he stayed to be honest. He's done well for Spurs this year, but I wonder even if with Champions League football, if Modric's heart isn't already set on a move away ?

Yeah, yeah, I think you will have more to worry about if you don't make a CL spot. You might need to get a new van.

And nobody is in for Modric so that's the end of this argument.

What part in particular? That he wanted to leave ? I think it's well established that he wasn't interested in the Chelsea flower show. It's also well documented that Modric would give his best for Spurs regardless of his personal desires. So unless he's changed his mind, it's not unreasonable to suggest that he might still want to leave.

Yes, it was pretty obvious he was looking to go last summer. But, that was last summer. I don't think it was just the money he was concerned about, either. He's a world class player, and wants to win top honours. If the club is to keep him, we have to convince him that he can achieve what he wants by staying with us. I suspect that Harry & Levy are aware of that.

Piskie....surely you should be more worried about what will happen toRVPand Whiltshere if you dont make top 4....and about who will want to join you if you dont have champions league football next season.
You could well end up with a new manager who wull spend big....and risk your well run club....but hey, if dreaming about modric leaving us takes your mind,of,things fair enough

Journo's a City fan ("Read Simon Mullock's weekly Manchester City column exclusively on MirrorFootball every Friday.") trying to unsettle us. He regularly irritates United and Liverpool...still doesn't explain what entered SP's head to get drawn into that subject. <doh>

Also true. Arsenal have already lost two top players. RVP is a world class striker (when fit) if he feels he can't win things with the Gooners, he'll go. Simple as!

Until Fulham's junior club started unsettling him he was completely happy at WHL, otherwise he wouldn't have signed a new contract. Then the media started their pathetic "Modric to Stamford Bridge" campaign (which the bitter and twisted goon and chav followers bought into and tried to propogate) and he became unsettled. Good management and strong leadership dealt with the problem and he, and the club, have moved on - much to the embarrassment of those that bought into it all.

The truth of the matter is that some followers of London's lesser clubs want him to leave Spurs so as to weaken their main rival. That they are too stupid to realise that should he leave whichever club he does go to becomes an even bigger threat to them says all that one needs to know.

RvP leaving the goons will have a greater effect on them than it will on league positions (other than the goons dropping even further down the pecking order) - if he goes to Mancheater Pity they will still be the club that they are, if he goes abroad then none will care apart from the goons will mourn his passing - we will just be able to say "told you so". As for Wilshere - he's a non-entity.

  17. There! That's the bit that's laughable. The fact that you presume to know his mind.

    Get it, now?

Surely, you should be more worried about players leaving your sinking ship? You're one of the very, very few Gooners who believe that RVP is committed to AFC, aren't you? Most Gooners see the fact that he is letting his contract run down into Bosnan territory as a sign that he is, in fact, not committed to the club.

So, you'll forgive us for taking anything you say with a barrel of salt?

Pienaar added: “It was hard for me at Spurs. I got injured and I never really got a chance because they were playing so well. But I have asked for tickets off some of the guys so that I can support Tottenham at *Liverpool!”

    Good lad <applause>

Not sure whether he was being asked michevious questions by the interviewer to get the other quotes for him, so I'll let him off.

Anyone want to do the matchs to work out how many more games he'll need to attend in order to repay his transfer fee? Oh go on, it's cold and horrid out there!

    He was free.

It's fair to say that he didn't turn up for many of the games he played in so it will be good practice for him even though he's out on loan.
