I ain't defending Wenger. I'm just hacking down arguments which are based on hatred rather than logic. Can't stand moaners who have no sense of reality.
One where that can't be used as a way of arguing everything and anything that you say is correct. AKA Earth.
spot on Unless we change our expectations in which case, we should be grateful for being a top 6 club.
You're right The margins in football are fine. Last week the difference between 3 pts and a draw was the thickness of the crossbar. Arsenal are not that far of at all, as demonstrated today. There's been no revolution since last week, but the results were significantly different. Last week it didn't go in our favour, this week it did. This is why I don't buy into the exaggerations that we're in a full blown crisis. It's simply naive catastrophising, born out of the very real frustrations that Arsenal fans have experienced, but left unchecked to become gross misrepresentations of the reality of the situation.
So we have Van der Vaart, Parker Tiote, Ba, Enrique, Alvare, Cabaye, Sow and Suarez. Van der Vaart was transfered 2 years ago not this summer, At that point you would have had to replace Fabregas, Song or Wilshere as he would have required a starting position. Parker - Im not even going to dignify this with a response. Tiote is a good player but he only has 2 assists this year and is for me second best behind Song. If he is an upgrade it is not earth-shattering. Ba, Would have been nice sitting on the bench, but with RVP playing so well, I doubt he would have made an impact. Enrique has been a dreadful player. Very poor defensively. Cabaye - Another backup for Song. Ricardo Alvarez - good shout. Sow -Another striker/Our master plan, the player to make the difference between a big club and a has been, is a backup player? Really? Suarez - Another striker, honestly? Suspended for racism, only 5 goals for Liverpool, loads of hype, good for Uraguay, Ask Liverpool if they are glad they bought him. These guys aren't top quality stars. I don't see much here that would turn round our season and win the PL.
The point I am making, is that it is a lot harder to come up with a positive argument than a negative one. You can't tell me that you really think those players would have made that much difference, or that you feel as certain about arguing that adding those players would make a significant difference to our results.
What do you mean damn right he would have made a difference - He has a lousy goal scoring record, cant play with RVP and doesn't have that good a record of assists either. Why am I supposed to be impressed with this guy? Yes - Alvarez would have been good. VDV was not available this year. Parker is crap. But you have to recognise that a backup for Song is not a huge upgrade. My comment is totally defensible. I'm not sure half of them could keep possession sufficiently well to fit into our team.
And YOU have said that there are "Loads of quality players" out there. And you are a lot further from proving your statements. I'll admit Alvarez was a decent shout and Van Der Vaart. However, I still maintain that neither would "certainly" improved our team. And changing our formation to accomodate a player, introduces a whole lot of uncertainty.
You have faith that you can spot an affortable player that is certain to improve the team. I am confident that if such a player existed, Wenger would buy them. Not much difference really.
No variable. My original statement included the certainty. Jayram was disingenuous when he misquoted me.
Who (if any) of these players do you think would improve Arsenal's current team? Falcao Turan Diego Santi Carzola Toulalan Mexes Gokhan Inler Erik Lamela Bojan Krkic
Falcao - no, We have RVP, I suppose you can argue that strictly speaking he would be an improvement playing as a backup to RVP, but I think we both know that he isn't really a practical buy. Turan - not certainly, his goals and assists have not been spectacular. Diego - Not sure which one you mean Santi Carzola - 4 goals 4 assists in 20? Toulalan - Web site I look at, him has him valued lower than Song. Mexes - Is he better than Kos/Metersacker/Vermaelen? Gokhan Inler - 1 goal and 2 assists in 27 games this season. Erik Lamela - 19 year old Bojan Krkic - 3 goals in 21 appearances this season. Nice picks and a few probably on Arsenal's list to keep an eye on, but certain upgrades, no way. You might have me close on one or two (Falcao is a good Pick - Someone else said Alvarez), but you have to see my point about how hard it is to pick a clear cut solid buy at the moment? Even if you think Wenger should get them all, It is really difficult to find players.
It was more a personal curiosity thing. I certainly don't think all are first team but a couple i think are good players which could help Arsenal. Such as Inler plays in a more defensive role for Napoli (from what i've seen this season anyway) allowing Hamsik, Cavani and Lavezzi get forward hence his low assist record. Lamela your response is a bit strange since Wenger has spent 15m on an 18 year old. Also i don't think sheer stats with a few of these players are fair because some would benefit from having a player like RVP in the side. But it was more a curiosity thing than saying they were all better.
