I think its your age Leazes, you won't remember anyone pre Shearer. I'm not an awful lot older, but I do remember the likes of Mickey Quinn, who was a decent servant but no world beater.
The important thing is to ensure we don't build it up to the extent that no one has a chance of attaining its lofty standards (yeah, so to get it you have to be as good as the Premierships leading goalscorer, our record holder and one of Englands greatest forwards. Best of luck...). It's the player that matters, not the shirt so I've no issue whatsoever in giving it to Cisse, especially with Ba not wanting it.
My age yea, but when I was being brought up, everyone made out as if the number 9 was the best number in the world, and only in Newcastle did that number mean something. When playing Sunday league, I wanted to be number 9.
