Slightly confused by what people have expected from SWP. He has performed for us exactly as he has throughout his entire career - runs fast, tries hard, little end product, no evidence that he has learned tactically or improved his skill levels. Having said that he his definitely one of our best 11 (at the moment), if only because his pace makes the opposition nervous. He is matching my expectations when we signed him ( be honest you would have preferred Bellamy, wouldn't you?), the only time I lose my cool with him is when he turns up almost as the last man in defence - as at the Emirates and once in the second half yesterday. Hughes may get him making more impact in a clearer system, but please don't expect miracles.
I respect the opinions expressed here and maybe there is more to SWP than I'm seeing. I like the effort he shows and can't fault his character so maybe Hughes will play him in a more beneficial position and I will be happy to back peddle. Come on you R's
He has definatley been a massive let down. Hoepfully Hughes can spark him into life but im not holding out much hope. His shooting is awful.
Easy to confuse the two! The only thing he has done of note is lose us a point passing to an arsenal player with no QPR player within 15 yards. We would have been better off playing Ephraim, sure hes invisible as well but I cant remember him costing us any goals and points.
I know, it just shows how useless SWP is. You always think he might do something because he has that speed but he never does. No goals, no assists, not even a setup of a great chance that I can recall.
He got Bossingwa sent off chasing Adel's through ball, and got pulled down, sort of, and got up again as he does. He's no diver anyway! He's also hit the bar at least twice, I know it ain't much, but I always feel once he scores he'll get a few. His runs lock in defenders even if his final ball or shot is often not good enough. We need someone to run at defenses - he's the best we have at this, for now anyway.
So hes done one positive thing by accident and one negative thing, thats not good enough for a half a season with the player on 80k a week. im sure any other player in the squad would have had more influence on our games with that playing time.
The only other player we have who runs at defenses (and gets games) is Mackie, but I think SWP is better at this than Jamie.
Mackie is more effective and you can see that because hes scored goal. SWP always flatters to deceive, there is never an end product.
I think the whole squad needs an intensive shooting practice. It seems they're just not quite aware of what it feels like to hit the back of the net any way they can. And we saw some of that in the first 20 minutes against Newkie, we tried to shoot but they were mostly too far from goal and too tame to do any harm, but alas, they were trying to shoot according to obvious instructions.
This is quite interesting as there have been calls to buy experienced Premiership players, which SWP is. Questions are asked what he does for the team, well ask Luke Young as SWP works his socks off and does a lot of covering and at present we do a lot of defending. SWP has been unfortunate that he has been at clubs where his development had been slowed down due to not playing regularly, under MH I believe he will be utilised in his best position and given his confidence back. During the game when MH brought on Tommy Smith it was aid that was a NW tactic and a championship player, so if SWP isnt doing any good who would play there?? I am not saying he is our greatest ever player but he isnt our worst and I believe once MH and his team get em rocking our team spirit will rteurn, which will then breed confidence as the players will not be worried about making a mistake and being chastised for it.
Yeh Mackie 2 - SWP 0 (plus 1 great goal incorrectly ruled out Offside!), not a great return from players who are playing in positions where they should be scoring more. It reflects our major problem doesn't it. But I wrote that SWP is the best we have at running at defenses, I was only comparing that, not their total performancies which overalll are pretty similar, though I'd still give my vote to SWP. They are very similar players in style as well, both do work hard, track back and defend well usually. But, hopefully after January and the return of Adel and Traore we won't need to play both from start, one of this type of player should be enough normally.
