They aren't going to directly think/say "no way is he getting the job, his hair is ****", but subconsciously it'll set off alarms if you look like you haven't put an effort into your appearance.
First impressions count a lot. Before you've even sat down they'd have formed a pretty strong opinion of you. Obviously it doesn't make a difference to your ability to do the job, but if they subconsciously form a negative opinion before you've even opened your mouth it isn't going to help your cause.
You'd be surprised, particularly if they've got loads of candidates. It's these random first impressions. I'm not especially judgemental, when you first meet a person, you get clues immediately as to what kind of person they're going to be. It's how we remember people we meet: we assign a trait that is reasonably unique (which is why people always notice ginger people for being ginger, for example).
But as I've said though, I dress in a smart shirt and tie, a smart coat, my clothes are clear and no creases on them. I flick my hair over to one side, but that's all I can really do with it.
Honestly just read this post without reading the quoted bit and thought you meant TONIGHT was the weirdest Christmas Eve of your life I thought, he's a bit late there... But yeah that evening WAS weird.
Yes, but I thought it was more to do with how you act? I always come in, make eye contact, I'm always smiling with my chest out to appear confident, I shake their hands. Those sorts of things should matter more than my ****ing hair.
people who put themselves down as much as you do have a low self esteem nothing to do with a realistic view at all
I'm gonna go all gay. Get it cut short, you'll look fandabuloza! If it's how I imagine it (falling over your face a little bit?), it really might look better and present a better impression. Put real effort into it - gel etc. before interviews. Anyway, too late on a sunday for the not606 careers service.
