Deano has always had problems Jay, people turn to drink to block out realities of life. Thank god he wasn't successful, I wouldn't question his state of mind to admit it.

Sorry but am I the only one who doesnt buy into this? What he has done for the club is great, but this just sounds like it was a cry for attention, or maybe help.
I find it hard to believe someone can fail to commit suicide, twice, if they actually planned to end their life.
Like I said, nothing against the lad and what he has done for city and I hope he gets the help he needs, but these suicide "attempts" (in general) wind me up!

No Flaming from me mate .... It's your opinion and you must have your reasons for them ....
If it's true that Deano failed twice and thank God he did fail .... yes it could well be a cry for help but that does not mean that it isn't depression.
So I for one wish him all the best and hope that he gets all the help required for this Hull lad that has done this city so proud on so many occasions over the years.
Maybe a scouting roll within the club .. our own Steve Walsh if you like, there must be something without being to disruptive to the existing set up.

I take it from this you never get very drunk mate. I have been in such a state in the past. Once,after a heavy night out,i somehow found my way home but,i could'nt get my key in the front door. I had to bang loudly on it to get my better half out of bed. Very embaressing.
So i findit more than reasonable that Dean struggle to hang himself with some bedding and a belt.
I too would hope that the club would find Dean a position at the club. There must be something they can do for such a Hull legend. John Eyre is our kit man for instance.This is shocking news. I for one feel down on this Sunday morning. Good luck Deano x
Really sad story. If you have read his autobiography you can see he has had a fairly troubled life. My heart goes out to the bloke, a proper city legend. Surely City need to do something for him even if it just a small part time role at the club. Football really needs to start looking after its current and former players, this is starting to become the norm. Well done to Deano for being brave enough to come out about his issues.

Like many who are unfortunate enough to suffer with the illness that is depression, their state of mind is hardly right to put all of the things in place to successfully end their life.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I think it shows your lack of experience of people suffering. For that you should be thankful and I hope you never experience someone close going through it to teach you otherwise.

You can't really understand depression until you have gone through it. It really is an awful experience for the person and the people around them. If you don't understand something keep your mouth shut. Believe me depression is a bigger problem in this country than people realise. I see the victims of it everyday at work, there are some truely awful life stories out there and it is disgusting the way some people think depression is somehow an easy way out and that it doesn't happen to people from all walks of life. Money and fame don't always make you happy (a lesson society at large needs to learn).
I really admire Deano for speaking up about his problems, he could so easily have continued to keep this bottled up, only to attempt to take his own life again.
I really hope he now gets the help thats needed and recovers from this.

His state of mind is clearly due to drink and when sober he possibly does not feel the need to take his life. Drink plays a major part in depression. If he can change his lifestyle he can overcome the worst element.

be great if the club stepped in to help, i realise nobody is owed a living by anybody, but surely deano is at close as it comes.
even a bit of part time coaching, to keep him involved with what he loves and away from the pub would be a start....

For Gods sake, someone at the club step in and do something. He's been on Talk Shyte begging for a job at the Club. Surely we can sort something out?
Put it another way, how will the Club look if we allow a situation to continue until he DOES commit suicide? In a time where ex-players are constantly given coaching jobs where they were once heroes, why cannot we?

Jeez the bloke deserves everything we can do for him as a club. Even an Assistant Kitmans job with Johnny Eyre would get him back into the game.
Deano would make a great ambassador for our club and it would help him get his self-esteem back, maybe let him help with the juniors too until he gets himself back on track, somebody should email the club with suggestions to help him, he deserves to have something back, didn't he also sell his medals recently, i thought at the time something must be wrong, get well Deano
i reckon as soon as he is well, he needs to get back to Leeds or Bradford or wherever his family are to build what he had. He needs to remember his Proofessionalism and rebuild his football career, whilst treating Hull City as no more than a facet of that, just like Aldershot, Bury or Blackburn (for example) would be. If Hull City happenss again then he gets the best of both worlds! Harsh but true and i wish a true Hull City legend a full and speedy return to the game.
I have just read Deano's story in The People with a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. Dean Windass, you gave me the happiest day in my life on 24th May 2008, nothing comes close.
As already said on here, he will always be held in the highest regard amongst the Tiger Nation.

Why are we so certain a job with the club would be mutually beneficial?
I hope AA/AP/ NB would only employ someone who they believe would be an asset to the club.
Certainly no guarantee there especially with his present state of mind. A good chance that at the moment he wouldnt be capable of holding down a job.
We all love him to bits, but why are we so sure that such a large character with such legendary status would have a positive impact 'in the bulding'?
Great image of him as assistant kit man...who'd be first to have itching powder in their shorts, odd socks, disappearring goalie gloves, holes cut into kit etc.
Not sure someone drinking 10-15 pints a day is likely to be a good ambassador for the club!!!!
