Hey everyone, I am not at all an experienced flyer and need some advice from someone who is!

I have flights booked through a UK travel agency which have subsequently been booked with Delta airlines (flying to NYC). We want to make a change to the date of the outbound flight (travelling earlier by 5 days).

With the E-ticket I was issued by the travel agent, I am able to log into the Delta website and manage my booking directly with them and there is an option to change our flights for £275.00 which I thought quite reasonable.

Now, at present, the travel agent is refusing to ammend saying the tickets are non transferable and saying they won't do it. The question I have is, as my E-ticket reference was issued by the airline (via the travel agent) am I legally allowed to make changes to that ticket direct with the airline?

Delta have said that if I change the booking online they will re-issue the tickets with the ammended flights but would that invalidate my contract with the travel agent?

Bit of a funny one but I have only flown once before and have no idea! OLM, you're a jetsetter, any ideas?

I can't see what your travel agents problem is. I have changed flights on the day of travel before today. The only time I have come up against this is if it has been one of the budget airlines like EasyJet or Ryanair, which I don't normally use. Delta are not a budget airline and they are willing to change your flight online. Have you booked just flights through Agent or accomodation as well. If it is just flights you are covered by ATOL anyway.

We've just booked the flights. Delta have said that the normal practice is to go through the travel agent we used as our contract is with them? But I've got through the Delta website to select our new flights, chose our seats and gone through to the payment section and it has said that by confirming they will re-issue the e-ticket with the new flight details which will be available in my intinerary (which I can access online anyway) so I dont see what the TA problem is

Not sure why you travel agent is being an Arse. Contact Delta directly. They are not the best in the world and you might need a little time to get things sorted out but they get there in the end. Be aware that they have a habit of cancelling flights and not telling you. You need to call and confirm a week before you fly, 3 days and also the day before. Nearly never went on honeymoon because of this. Have a nice trip

Just seen where you live, are you flying from East Midlands via Amsterdam. Could be that section of route not transferrable depending on Airline. But if it is KLM shouldn't be a problem.

I forgot to add: if you are going to NYC to do the tourist bit (you will love it) and are staying in Manhattan then try to get to Newark not JFK. Newark has a direct train link to Penn station and Penn Staion comes out at 34th street. This is the Macy's, Madison Square Garden, Empire state area and is 10 blocks from Times Square. If you land in JFK then get the Bus to Manhattan not a taxi. The taxi drivers are mentals and the Bus is only 20 mins longer for a quarter of the price

Ive flown with Delta and not had any problems. I always books my own flights. Hate to use travel agents especially when its just for booking flights. Glad you got it sorted and there food is quite nice.

Oh. Sorry, thought you had. Like others have posted....what is your travel agents problem ? if Delta are happy then they should be happy. You could always contact the travel regulator if the agent wont play ball. This is a strange one. Good luck and you will love NYC.

We are actually staying in Brooklyn, flying to JFK and planning on taking the subway as there is a stop 1 block from the hotel. Staying in the new Super 8 franchise in Brooklyn, it was a lot cheaper than Manhattan and it's only 20 mins journey to the centre of Manhattan. We've got one of those New York Passes for the attractions, paid £100 each but that covers over 55 attractions

There's no such thing as good food on a flight, not even in first class, it all tastes like dog food.

Ignore what they said about not getting a cab, it's a great laugh, long bearded blokes who don't speak English, driving like maniacs, it's just like Hull Fair. <ok>

I don't see how the travel agent can stop you doing this, especially if Delta will reissue you the ticket. What exactly is the travel agent's reason for not helping? Unfortunately the best advice I can give you is not very helpful - and that's to book directly or through sites like Expedia rather than travel agents. As a transatlantic airline Delta aren't great but they are cheap! Get to Heathrow early (at least 3 hours) - the security procedures to get on one of their planes can be ridiculous, last time I flew with them they were checking through every single person's hand luggage before letting them through to the gate (they looked less than impressed with my Hull City boxer shorts).

I've never made first class but I find BA business class food more than tolerable. Good booze selection as well!

The travel agent has said they won't help because on the E-ticket that they sent me it says 'this ticket is non transferable or refundable once issued'. However, the ticket they have sent is basically a copy/paste of the booking details that are on my flight itinerary on the delta website, printed on their headed paper.
The actual ticket number has been issued by Delta and when I go to change the details direct with them, it is this ticket number that is used to make the ammendments, not the booking reference from the travel agents

The booze is good enough to drink lots of, fall asleep and not have to eat the dog food. <ok>

WOW. Nice one. You will love Times Square at night and check out the steak bars. If you like your food you wont be disappointed.
