Newcastle could be forced to wait to sign Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha due to the Eagles continued involvement in the Carling Cup. They lead Cardiff 1-0 after the semi-final first leg so the Magpies could be forced to move in the summer.

Couldnt we buy him and loan him back.

Sounds incredibly talented the way people are talking about him, we have enough to go higher than that. Sounds like we are looking at Guthrie replacements, still no contract for him.

I'd go for Liverpool's Raheem Stirling instead. he's even better.

Two bits of gossip from NUFC.com

French media reports on Wednesday credited United with an interest in Racing Club Lens midfielder Abdelhakim Omrani - and claimed that the player was on Tyneside for a short trial.

The 20 year-old hasn't featured for Ligue 2 side Lens this season and began this season on trial at Bayern Munich - although no deal was concluded.

Like former Lens prospect Mehdi Abeid, Omrani began his international career with the French youth setup, before following the Newcastle player into the Algerian U23 squad in autumn 2011.

From what we can gather, Omrani's trial has now ended and the player returned to France. It remains to be confirmed whether any offer for him will follow, but it's thought unlikely.

The Chronicle report that Newcastle are looking to resurrect a move for PSG striker Mevlüt Erdinç - some six months after the Turkish international opted not to move to SJP.

24 year-old Erding was targeted by Alan Pardew last summer but preferred to remain in Paris to fight for his place in their side.

Without a single league start to his name this season and one goal from 11 sub appearances, the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as coach may finally be enough to see Erding head for pastures new.

Cash-strapped Everton have been linked with the player, while French websites speculate that fellow Ligue 1 side Rennes are attempting to raise funds to buy Erding.

One of the "Top 10" likely transfers in the Daily Mirror, but on reading it........

2. Jan Vertonghen: Ajax to Newcastle

Alan Pardew needs a central defender badly with Steven Taylor out for the season. Vertonghen looks a good player. He's only 24 but he has already won 35 caps for Belgium and won the Dutch championship.

The only problem for Newcastle is that Spurs are also interested as well.

Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that the club are ready to sell defender Aly Cissokho.

Both Arsenal and Newcastle have been strongly linked with the French international.

Cissokho has started every game for Lyon this season but they need cover in central defence and are seemingly willing to cash in.

The 24-year-old has also never hidden his desire to ply his trade in the Premier League.

"Possible winter departures? That doesn't mean we don't have any more means, but we want to keep the rules we set, which is to not increase deficit," Aulas told L'Equipe.

"The transfer of Aly Cissokho? I am rather in favour of it.

"We could hire a centre defender, young, not expansive and versatile, but none of our current centre defenders will be free agents next June, and maybe in February they will all be back.

"We could hire a defensive midfielder as Maxime Gonalons is deputising as centre defender. We could also not do anything."

nufcfans were claiming this morning that we'd bid £10m (the asking price) for him according to L'Equipe, can't find any mention on the website though.

Some of the stuff L'Equipe has said recently appear to have been inaccurate (bidding for that midfielder, club denied it the next day), wouldnt be surprised if the Cissokho stuff is too, our budget for January is only supposed to be 8m.
