Rumours abound, that we have put a bid of £15m in for........ Andy Carrol.
Probably a load of crap but made me laugh.
Probably a load of crap but made me laugh.
Dont want to get shot down here either, but we all know MON likes a big man up front, and we could do a lot worse than Carrol (Heskey anyone). Yes there is the mags link and it could be Chopra all over again, and I know what cest will think of this, but would it be such a bad move (if he even wanted to come, which i doubt).
Why do they make this crap up, a total none starter on so many levels including the fee. I know they got done by the mags but they would not let him go for that.
From what I have gathered, the attitude of players is of paramount importance to Martin O'Neill, for that reason alone I would suggest that Carroll is a non-starter.
SUNDERLAND have run the rule over promising Gambia winger Alieu Darbo as they look to beef up their wide options in January.
The Journal understands Darbo was on trial at the Stadium of Light before Christmas and played in a practice match for the Black Cats – impressing alongside senior stars Craig Gardner and the returning Fraizer Campbell.
Currently a free agent, the 19-year-old former RC Lens wide man has Swedish heritage and has played for their international underage sides before opting for his native Gambia.
He started his career with Swedish side Ãrgryte and has been capped at under-20 level for ‘the Scorpions’.
He was also on trial at Newcastle United at the back end of last year but the Black Cats wanted to take a closer look at him and are understood to be mulling over whether to offer the promising midfielder a short-term deal.
He has interest from elsewhere and League One Scunthorpe United, where he has trained this week, are desperate to land him.
Naturally he would prefer to chance his arm with Sunderland, who are looking for reinforcements in both wide areas this month.
The emergence of Derry City flier James McClean might have mitigated the need for a high-profile wide man in this window, but Martin O’Neill is well aware the Black Cats cannot rely on him alone during the second half of the season

They got him for 0 though really, as they got 50 million from the Torres sale, he has already been there a year, so thats 7-10 million knocked off right there (if he got a 4 year contract) so i think 15 million is about right tbh, and they would probably consider letting him go for that, as he isnt exactly setting the world alight at Liverpool atm.
Anyone who has played for a team called The Scorpions must be worth a look at
