Problem is, people sag we only need 5 wins out of 18 or whatever it is but Blackpool were in exactly the same position as that last year! I've noticed that Swansea have nearly completed the signing of josh mceachren on loan! Now if this is true then by my reckoning that's their 3rd loan...
I'm not 100% sure, but isn't the rule that you can only have two players on 'season long loans'? In which case signing someone halfway through probably doesn't come under that particular piece of legislation. Some people have been talking about sending de Laet back, whilst I have been critical of him and the mistakes he made I certainly wouldn't agree to that at all as I still think he has a part to play if he can get himself fit as he looked excellent against Spurs in the first half. Hopefully I'm right about the rules so we can bring someone else in as I also agree with other that prices for permanent transfers in January are usually massively inflated.
I think Paul pogba on loan would be a quality signing, looks a terrific player and games are hard to come by at man utd atm but thats obviously never going to happen! I've got no problem with de laet, though a few mistakes at the beginning of the season apart from them I think hes been a very good signing for us...
swansea have signed gylfi sigurdsson (sp) on loan from Hoffenheim which counts as an international loan i suppose, meaning they would only have two loans from inside the the English league structure.
I think De laet's been OK, yes there've been errors, but overall he's not been bad. The other thing with the idea of sending him back is that, while it frees up a loan place, his position in the squad would need to be filled. Would we buy (extra expense), or would we get another loan in? Feels unnecessary to me. A note of further caution regarding our position now relative to safety. Whilst the obvious comparison has been Blackpool, let's not forget our relegation back in the 90's. Flying at Christmas, down in May. Of course Lambert is a very significant factor in why those comparisons are wide of the mark, but they are food for thought. Edit: For those young enough not to remember, I had a look at where City were in the 1994/1995 season. On the 15th of January we were 10th on 34 points, come May we were 20th (of 22 clubs) on 43 points!
Jesus christ the 2 loan signings Swansea have made (if McEachran goes through) have been outstanding to be fair. Always thought Sigurdsson was destined for the Prem when at Reading. Apparently aswell they are chasing Maynard? They are stealing all my targets! Swans fans must be VERY happy.

Having said that, I think, this season 43 points would be well within the bounds of safety Still like to do better than that, though!
totally right irdan two inspired signings. sigurdsson is very underrated. scores goals, creative, hard working... will be a big hit i think and we all know about mcheachran! to be fair though, will they both fit in to the team at the same time? would they leave joe allen out (a player i rate very highly)? lots of competition in their midfield and all the players are very similar in style
Yep, we were 7th after 22 games, in the next 20 games (42 matches then) we gained a grand total of 7 draws and 1 win. Also we lost 7 out of last 8 games! Don't look at the last 8 matches of this season, it looks daunting!! Gandy, works for those of us who've tried to forget as well!! At the risk of tempting fate, I don't think the run in looks as daunting as it did at the start of the season. Fulham, Everton, Blackburn and Villa could certainly yeild points.
i thought swans had stephen caulker on loan as well from spurs, as we were linked with him before we go de laet. maybe he's U21 and that doesn't count
Things are way different in 2012 from 1995.You didnt have the top 7 teams taking 50% of all the points scored and that has made for a very lop sided table these days.Wolves at fifth from bottom have only 17 points with only 18 games left.It seems clear that 38 is going to bring safety this season and it could be as low as 34 unless those bottom teams improve.
We need another forward Jordan Rhodes name is cropping up and the Egyptian international Gedo. I would take a bet on a Defensive midfielder to keep Johnson on his toes. Out Wilbraham and I'd like to see Korey Smith go out on loan as he has been an excellent player for us and could step up but needs the games.
I really don't understand those saying we NEED another forward. Morison, Holt and Jackson are all scoring goals. Add to that the expected return of Vaughan (potentially the best striker at the club) and I don't se too much of an issue. We have had no problems scoring goals this season. I don't see that changing. All new players would be welcome, including forwards, but to say we NEED one is a bit over the top IMO.
We're don't have enough pace at times Jackson can be nippy and I know Vaughan can absolutely leg it, what if Vaughans injuries are worse then we think? I agree I think he will be our best forward and I hope he remains injury free forever.
Totally agree 100% Kenny Who exactly do people think isn't justifying their place at the moment? Would it be 'eight goal Holt', 'eight goal Morison' or 'three goals in four games Jackson'? Do we really need to splash out and pay over the odds (January prices are always way over the odds) on another striker who may take time to settle in, could somehow upset the squad dynamic (particular risk if we sign them purely on the back of some highlights clips from yootoob ) and effectively become a bench-warmer from now until the end of the season - especially when we go back to playing one up front again which we are very likely to do in many of our remaining games? I personally don't think so, but at the end of the day Lambert knows best so let's see what happens between now and the end of January
Dont get me wrong, I am not saying we shouldn't sign a striker, ust that there is no desperate need. As for lack of pace, that is fair comment particularly when Holt and/or Morison are up top. But you know what? It doesn't matter, we are still scoring goals. I would love it if a 20 goal a season pacey striker joined us but that is simply not going to happen. Very few clubs in this league (top 6 or 7 apart) have one of those. We are only 3 months into our Premiership adventure, the likelyhood of us finding one are remote in the extreme. If we do sign a striker I would like to see somebody different to what I think we have already. A better version of a Chris Martin would do me. A natural finisher. We already have pace (Vaughan and Jackson) and aerial threat (Morison and Holt). Holt has a great finish too and so to add another natural finisher to that would give good balance. However, it would be a luxury rather than a necesity.
