    Decent article in the Sunday Sun today written by Mark Douglas, who to be fair is usually spot on when it comes to Newcastle.

    I found these couple of paragraphs the most interesting:

    And some of the stars put to Newcastle’s hierarchy by busy agents and representatives from cash-strapped clubs have changed their thinking in this window.

    So much so that a deal for a domestic-based striker is now being actively talked about – a U-turn on the stated policy that only one defender will be added this month

    Who do we reckon the striker could be? If you read on in the article, Pardew says all signings will be under 26 years old, so that rules Pav out. Any thoughts?

    Don't know think it was clever play by Pardew when he said we weren't going for a striker.

    That's who I was thinking about when I was reading it. I'd be happy if we signed him. No more than 6 million though

    budget of £8m? Sounds about right to be fair. I think the rumors about Tomkins are true personally.

    I think we'll try to spend as little as possible from the 8m on Tomkins and if there is some left go for a striker.

    Yer the budget does seem about right. I do like the fact though, that its mentioned that if an exceptional talent becomes available, more money is there.

    But how many strikers do you see in the lower leagues score for fun, get picked up by a prem team and all they do is sit in reserves and get occasional appearence in the first team?
