Just seen Duke has been loaned to Derby for the rest of the season with a 24hr recall, doesn't this leave us a bit bare in the keeper department?
I would guess he got a Premier League wage rise when we went up so is probably on too much money to sit on the bench in the Championship. This should just mean that if Mannone gets injured before a game we recall Duke, if he got injured during a game we have Oxley for the rest of that match and then Duke will be back.
it could also mean that if Mannone gets a longer injury, then Guzan could return. Would he be allowed to return under league rules?
Did the bus go through forest to drop him off glad he's gone in the way he has that we can recall him 24 hours before.
It seems odd to me, if Mannone breaks down in the first fifteen minutes tomorrow, we've got Oxley for the rest of the game. Duke wasn't the best keeper in the world and I expected him to be gone when his contract expired at the end of this season, but he wasn't our number one keeper when any of his contracts were agreed, so can't have been on that much money and it seems unduly risky to me.
Can't understand this loan tbh. Think it leaves us really thin at the back now. If Guzan had also stayed (if we had the loan slot available) then I could understand it. Can't see Dukey being on massive wages. But I guess he isn't happy being constantly looked over. Good luck Dukey.
Agree with some of the posts above - in a game like Forest I wouldn't be comfortable with Oxley potentially playing a large part. Remember Mannone is fresh back from injury, what if he gets injured again in the first 15 minutes?
Pearson's paranoia with all things old regime knows no bounds, is irrational and will rebound on the club. Like many of his erstwhile colleagues Duke was a fine player who hardly deserves the cold shoulder. It will be Cairney next.
What was fine about Duke? For a professional footballer he was an absolute shocker! How someone his height can get lobbed from on his own line is beyond me. His handling isn't the greatest and his kicking is as accurate as mcshanes passing! Glad to be rid of him, even it does mean oxley is our sub keeper.
Good to get Duke out on loan if he isn't going to play, 24 hours is enough notice. I don't share Tigga 777's belief that he is a 'fine player', maybe good cover if we don't have anybody better available.
Never ever rated Duke. I think its more about the player wanting to move on after being demoted first by Mannone and then Guzan. According to the BBC website he's gone as cover not first choice for Frank Fielding now that Bywater's gone to the Taffs - thus the reason I feel he wants out.
