I actually cried at this. I'm not even joking...
Yes this. It doesn't have quite the same impact, especially if you haven't watched the whole of the episode, but it's still sad. the choice of song definitely makes it more affecting.
I honestly thought the ending to The Luck of the Fryrish was sadder. When: [nsfw]it turns out its actually his nephew [/nsfw]
Somebody may not have. Futurama was at its best when it was moving though. It was never really all that funny but some storylines were great.
I preferred it to The Simpsons. It was more adult and had more compelling storylines. Having said that I did also enjoy the Bender and Zoidberg slapstick moments. Especially Zoidberg's Stooges homages.
Bloody hell I was extremely distant from everyone when my Gran died, which is far worse than Newcastle going down.
I actually find them the least funny characters. Zoidberg is a decent clown character to be the butt of some derogitary jokes but Bender just seems like a failed attempt at a character to me. It's like the writers asked their catholic grandmothers to think of some really offensive character traits and they came up with 'smokes!, has no tact!, steals wallets! hee hee'. To me, Farnsworth and Fry have the lions share of the funny moments even if they are few and far between. But as we're saying yeah it was a lot more focussed on the plots and was far more compelling for it. I still rate the Simpsons higher but I have a soft spot for Futurama and know all the episodes really well.
I agree about Farnsworth being a great character. He has some classic lines an moments: "Ah that soothes the fire!" and "Wernstrom!". I think Bender is meant to be a brash character as that is a contrast to the rest of the characters and also shows his lack of inihibitions due to being a robot, but he can also be capable of feelings/sensitivity which shows the possibility of human emotion rubbing off on him. I enjoy the Simpsons a lot but I think I burnt myself out on them due to the endless repeats and growing up with it.
Matt Groening is like a less extreme Walt Disney though. In the sense that he can't draw and has very little to do with everything his name is stamped all over.
