It doesn't sound like a lot because of what we have paid players in the past, but our wage cap is supposedly £50k so it's breaking that.

I understand that and think its great we have that in place now but there have to be exemptions to this rule as we will never keep our quality players which could lead to them just seeing out their contracts and leaving on free transfers. If Ba asks for a bigger contract are we just going to say no? Without him we would have been ****ed this season.

Yeah I see your point, it's very risky but it's worked so far <ok>

we understand nothing much will happen until the meeting this week with Derek LLambias, manager Alan Pardew, Secretary Lee Charnley and Chief Scout Graham Carr takes place, to better identify their strategy during this January window.

The news is that both Derek Llambias and Lee Charnley have returned from their short Christmas breaks, and Newcastle are already being inundated by agents with central defenders, as they know Newcastle need to sign a top center-back this month.

i guess it'll be later rather than sooner

He has played for England U21, so looks one for the future. Not sure how much we would have to pay for him though.

Also being linked to Barnsley captain Jacob Butterfield at 21 years old he must be good to already be the captain of a Championship side.

Hull have approached Newcastle about taking Harper on loan as well.

It appears that West Ham’s James Tomkins is still a target, and that Newcastle may go back to West Ham with an improved offer, after being turned down with their initial bid of around £2.5M a couple of weeks ago.

And Newcastle will not look at doing any loan deals in January, and that’s hardly surprising after last year’s loan deal of Aston Villa’s Stephen Ireland, which turned out to be an absolute disaster.

i would have thought getting a striker in on loan to cover Ba would have been a good idea

The Journal is reporting this morning that Young Boys Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka, Bordeaux’s Michael Ciani and Manchester City’s Nedum Onuoha are not now Newcastle targets.

James Tomkins has changed his agent, and the feeling within the club is that could help Newcastle, and the 22 year-old is also in the process of negotiating a new deal with West Ham, and we know manager Sam Allardyce doesn’t want to lose him.

West Ham are looking for a big offer before they will sell the 6’3″ England U21 International defender, but we just cannot see that coming from Mike Ashley.

We think maybe £5M is the biggest bid Newcastle would ever make for Tomkins, and that will not be big enough to tempt West Ham to sell.

According to the Times, we hav been offered chievo cb/rb marco andreolli for 4m.

If we were to offer £5 million and write off the remainder of fees due for Nolan?

I think Fat Sham will want to fleece us again or at least try maybe we could offer smith as well or perch or both.
It's going to be difficult getting someone in Jan unless their contract is up in the summer or we offer stupid money which let's face it isn't going to happen.I don't have a very good feeling about this window as far as players coming in esp. seeing some of the stuff pardew has said but then again i think he's covering his arse after the last Jan window.

I'd drive Smith down there myself :)

As far as the window is concerned, I can't really make out what the stance of the club is about players coming in.

The club went through months of negotiations for Maiga and then retracted the offer on 'medical concerns' before stating that they were not in the market for a striker. Why spend that effort on signing a striker?

I do expect a CB back in though and just hope we retain all the current first team.

That's key!

there's a good conspiracy theory about that (gets ready to run) due to saylor getting injured our transfer budget didn't cover 3 players and pards viewed the striker position as not a priority, the trouble was we had entered an agreement with maiga blah blah blah the rest as they say is bollocks ......or is it (cue xfiles music)
