Mexico to win, the altitude will be the problem.

I googled the record & this is what I found, it’s ok, not as great as everyone keeps going on about:

We keep hearing that Mexico are almost never beaten at home with only 2 losses in 89.

I was curious which teams that involved though given how impressive that is.

World Cup games-

Soviets, Belgium, Paraguay, Iraq, Bulgaria, (and in 2016) South Africa, C.Republic, Equador.

Majority of their games in this run are CONCAF qualifiers- Jamaica, Honduras etc.

Their standout victory there was beating Ronaldinho‘s Brazil in 1999 in a Confederations Cup final.

England may well lose or struggle at Mexico, if we win tonight, but their fortress home record isn’t quite as impressive as it sounds superficially.

England have played at the Azteca six times, twice against Mexico (one draw/one loss), twice in the 1986 World cup (beat Paraguay/lost to Argentina) and I can't find the other two.
According to an article in the Sun we lost to Italy and beat Germany in June 1985. Also lost to Mexico, all the games within a week. I don't remember it but must have been a postseason tournament between these teams.

Didn't England play in the Azteca twice during the 86 World Cup? Beating Paraguay 3-0, before losing to the Argies...I don't recall any serious problem, other than a geezer called Maradona.
But those were against teams as affected by the altitude as much as us so no one was at a disadvantage compared to the other. Mexico will have a distinct advantage as their home record their demonstrates.

2 losses in 89 ? What isn't impressive about that ? I didn't realise it was that good

I was at the Aztec for Columbia v Uzbekistan and the atmosphere was incredible....was still in Mexico city when they played south Korea and the Mexicans are proper football mad!!.... brilliant to experience it...just can't see us handling the occasion, altitude was no problem for me!!!...but I wasn't running around...just boozing!

Can’t remember where I read it (maybe an X thread) but some football journo was talking about altitude and endurance. He said players from LDU Quito have exceptional stamina due to the high altitude of their home stadium.
