I was today old when I learned that the first criteria for breaking the tie between teams on equal points is the head to head record and not goal difference. Just seems odd to me that it is possible (admittedly unlikely) that a team could go through at the expense of another with an inferior goal difference. Of course everyone (apart from me) knew the rules before the tournament started, but still can't get my head round. Sure it will be repealed if it eliminates a FIFA favourite.

Definitely feels like a get out of jail card in case one of the bigger teams has a slow start

...of course, the obvious problem there is the team who this rule would benefit most is Italy, who didn't qualify

They changed it for this tournament IIRC

Watching the South Korea games , looks like time is catching up with Son , he looks well off the pace, still has the desire but it not clicking for him

Should never have been a 48 team tournament. It’s too big and dragged out. Then to go to the knockout stages where it’s 32 and 8 of those finished 3rd is ridiculous.

How any team can get through with 2 defeats from 3 games is wild.
How many games will the top players play if they are fit for all club and international games?
75? Absurd

As I've been saying all along, it's not the biggest World Cup: it's the fattest

I have noticed the section of our fanbase spamming the SonIn hashtag back in January have been oddly quiet all tournament...

That's if you look at it as football tournament. For FIFA it is of course all about making money, therefore the more teams the more people and the more money.
I hate to say this, because of my general hatred of the British Empire and its works, but once the British lost control of the World Cup and The Olympics, money took over.
Before anyone accuses me of bias, I am genetically 97% English, sad to say. However, I am proud of the other 3% which is Viking :emoticon-0173-middl

Van Hecke with another great performance for the Dutch and capped it with a goal.

Far too early to judge of course but got a good feeling about this signing. Hoping to quote Levy’s “we’ve had our pants pulled down” statement at the end of the season with a laughing emoji.

The format of this world cup is seriously flawed, third placed teams playing their matches later know exactly what they need. Today we have already seen Australia and Paraguay play out a draw that suited both of them I only saw the last 30 mins but neither side seemed particularly bothered about going for the win.

Later on Sunday we have Austria and Algeria in a match neither will particularly want to win as 2nd in the group plays Spain, 3rd plays Switzerland they both have 3 pts currently again are both virtually through already..

The baffling criteria seem designed for a repeat of Germany/Austria from 1982
