This comes around every tournament , a **** game played at walking pace with a side nothing like the one that will take the field . If we win 4-0 it’s only New Zealand , if we scrape a win we are **** . Don’t even know why they bother televising it , may as well be behind closed doors for what the games actually worth .
Yep. And to some extent even the walking pace part I think is a reflection of people's interest in the game more than of the game itself. We half watch it cos we're not really that arsed and then we go ooh that was boring wasn't it, but really it was never going to entertain us.

pretty much yea

absolutely pointless to watch

More or less, the game was as expected, more for acclimatising to the weather and getting a run out.

I always prefer teams to start slowly and grow into the tournament, rather than those that start well at the beginning and usually fade.

second test almost pointless to bother with.

stokes, atkinson banned for it, robinson out with an injury. it'll be 1-1 going into the decider.

if stokes and atkinson were banned for breaking the curfew AFTER the first game was over, what sort of rule is that for home tests? once the game is over, the players should be free to go where they want when they want. suicidal and stupid decision.

They're covering themselves with the curfew thing, it had more to do with Stokes lumping another bloke which was caught on cctv ! I'm all for them letting their hair down, but ffs have some common sense.

Don't know if anyone noticed but the Phillips century in NZ's first innings shouldn't have been. At 93 or thereabouts he was given a 4 when the ball clipped his helmet with no bat involved. Should have been leg byes. Without that 4 he wouldn't have reached 100.

well, fair enough. i'd heard a rugby player hit an ecb staff member, but not about stokes hitting someone. did atkinson hit anyone?

Cctv shows Stokes being the aggressor, and knocking some bloke out, apparently a rugby academy player had already had a go at one of England's security staff, but having seen the lad who Stokes knocked out, looked like he was trying to calm the situation in the clip, other persons were present, but I couldn't recognise who they were. Just to add, the lad knocked out wasn't exactly Martin Johnson either !

I'm sure I read on here that the clip you refer to was from a completely different incident, the Bristol one years ago maybe. Not sure though.

In the previous clip Alex Hales could be seen getting involved, this one was simply Stokes going for 2 blokes, the one trying to calm it down got knocked out by him so 2 totally separate clips

In a statement, the ECB said: "Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson have been included in the England Men’s squad for the third Rothesay Test against New Zealand following the conclusion of an ECB disciplinary hearing in relation to their conduct in the early hours of Monday 8 June.

"Stokes and Atkinson were found to have breached specific contractual obligations that require England players to at all times maintain the highest standards of conduct and act in the best interests of England cricket.

"In addition to not being considered for selection for the second Rothesay Test, they have both been given a written warning as to their conduct.

"It was also concluded that no blame should be attached to the players for violent conduct at the nightclub.

"Stokes was not involved in the altercation and did not witness either incident.

"The evidence the ECB has seen demonstrates that Atkinson was the victim of unprovoked attacks and did not retaliate on either occasion."

Yup I've read that, either the clip doing the rounds was indeed a previous incident, albeit I'd seen that and Hales was clearly present as he kicked the bloke on the ground, or this was some form of lookalike vid. Either way pleased their back, god knows the team needs em.
