Nice video for the lad about his Dad but can’t lie, would’ve loved a van der Vaart or Davids welcoming video like we had with Daws and Ossie for Robertson and Senesi.

Rafa is currently sitting on the naughty step for doing a Bentancur while commentating on the Japan team.

There’s valid concerns about giving RDZ the keys to the kingdom transfer-wise. The average tenure of a PL manager is about 18 months, maybe even a little less - these guys are not incentivised to think long term in usual circumstances.

With that said, indecision and sitting on your hands in a transfer window can be as bad, if not sometimes worse, than just getting on with it. With the future of the DOF and general structure behind the manager reportedly up in the air, we have to do something. JPVH is a good player who has qualities we don’t have, is a good age, experienced in the league, and who the manager wants to work with.

We do need to sort out the pathway for young players as well of course. But I think taking stock after the summer and seeing what’s gone on with all of them, and then through the season in terms of game time and progression during loans, will be a better indicator of any progress than specifically what happens with Vuskovic - for many reasons he’s an outlier.

If Lange is to be believed, we've been mulling a move for VH for a while, so strictly speaking this isn't an RDZ signing although the latter was probably instrumental in convincing the player to join.

I’ve little issue if the main targets RDZ want are Prem proven which ours are/ have been, even though any signing can flop, there’s definitely less risk in these types. Van Hecke’s probably the only outright RDZ signing so far anyway considering Robbo almost joined in Jan and Senesi was linked not long after about agreeing to join if we survived, which he kept his word on. Tonali’s also a top CM should we get him (doubtful). Savinho’s the only one that isn’t Prem proven, he’s just played in the Prem, like Richarlison and Solanke and I pray we steer clear. Maddison, Kudus and Palhinha were all Prem proven too and injuries aside have had positive impacts. More of these types of signings and we’ll be a problem next season, no doubt about it.

As for Vuskovic, he’s just unfortunately the casualty of two dog **** league seasons. We simply can’t throw a 19 year old into the XI right now and the signings we’ve already made at CB means he’s likely not going to be in the plans for the following season too assuming van Hecke and Senesi perform as expected. Every chance he goes onto become one of the world’s best CBs and be worth £100m but the needs of the now outweigh the potential of tomorrow in my opinion, if we can get £50m+ I’d begrudgingly accept if I know it’s going on another Prem proven player to impact us immediately.

Question - Dominik Livakovic is available on a free transfer - I will be honest I have only ever really seen him play for Croatia, but always looked a safe pair of hands - any takers here?
He’s always looked decent for Croatia but like you I’ve never really seen him at club level.

We’ve not been linked but I’d like us to try for ter Stegen. Out of favour now at Barca due to Garcia, spent the second half of the season at Girona on loan but got injured in his second game. Still got a couple top years left in him I’d say.

Ornstein claims we're looking at Tonali and Fernandes.

I personally think the latter is a ruse to get Newcastle to hurry up on the former, although I wouldn't say no to Fernandes for a decent price. Probably the only Spam player I'd take apart from Bowen.

Think I’ve been living under a rock because I genuinely haven’t noticed Fernandes exists yet he’s been linked with us as well as Utd. Wiki’d him and he was at Southampton previously too… is the footballing world having me on or something, who the **** is this guy? <laugh>

The bloke we should've gone for when Gibbs-White unhappened, when he was available for £40m

Though the obvious downside is that Thomas Frank would still be in our dugout

Not a bad player. Not on Tonali's level but he's five years younger so might have a higher ceiling.

Typical Portuguese midfielder. Press resistant, tidy in possession, reads play well.

Watching them at the WC I've come to the conclusion that every team needs a Portuguese player but not too many or the football becomes too beige.
