Yep Japan like most teams have figured out how to keep Gakpo out of the game

EDIT: On the plus side VVD was MOTM and Gravenberch set up both Dutch goals. Somerville provided what we've missed on the right this season.

Not sure how vvd got motm. Was poor from the first 70 minutes I saw. Couple sloppy passes. Got caught out twice one not following player into the box to block a cross and another for pass through which got hit into the side netting. Ignoring his goal was a real average performance.

i think "average" is generous as i thought he was shockingly bad till the Dutch took control of the game

Initially, I thought this guy had lost the plot, but kept listening and it's actually a pretty good idea

Bloody brilliant! I'm biased because I holiday there almost every year, and the people there are fabulous, but isn't this what the early stages of the World Cup are about? And they could have won it in the end. Must admit, wasn't looking forward to this WC, but CV and Scotland have lifted my spirits. :1980_boogie_down::afro::emoticon-0103-cool:

What an absolute masterclass from Alexis Mac Allister in Argentina's World Cup opener against Algeria Dictating the tempo flawlessly for a full 90 minutes, he completely ran the show in that 3-0 victory.

Those ridiculous narratives suggesting his legs have gone after a tough season under Arne Slot look incredibly føøl!sh now The real problem was never Macca; it was a completely broken club setup that left him isolated. Shifting into a balanced, functional midfield alongside Enzo Fernández, his world-class tactical intelligence and technical superiority instantly took center stage again.

He was incredibly sharp throughout, even blasting the fierce strike that forced the rebound for Lionel Messi’s second goal. Talk about silencing the critics in the most emphatic way possible. With Andoni Iraola now at the Anfield helm, it is blindingly obvious that our midfield needs to be built entirely around Macca’s elite spatial awareness and vision this summer

Anyone watch the game?

I agree too many were ready to dump him cause of this season. Always said he's been over played since 2022 WC, our lack of other options in CM have meant he's virtually played every game since joining. Then add in Slots dire tactics and an aging squad, its not like he was the only one under performing last season (the season before he'd been lauded as the best CM in the league remember).

He's never had loads of pace, so expecting him to race around the pitch putting out fires was a ridiculous expectations from some of our fan base.

Good on you DRC. Has there ever been an international team as full as unlikable characters as Portugal. With Ronaldo playing Portugal essentially choose to play with 10 men, all the BS the commentators and Rooney come up with, Ronaldo offers nothing to the team.
