It’s inevitable that clubs going up the leagues will naturally outgrow some players but some might make the step up. It was generally accepted, by many people, that Ballard was one who wouldn’t be PL level, I’d say he’s proved people wrong.

Thankfully the club doesn’t make snap judgments on player’s otherwise Brobbey wouldn’t be a starter now, he looked well off the standard at first …

… I wouldn’t want to be the one making the decisions tbh.

Can't remember that with Ballard. He was the one I personally thought most likely to manage the step up!

I was convinced Hume and O'Nien couldn't step up but Hume was very good all season and Luke looked class when asked to step in!

Ross Stewarts available for a free. Id put money on him signing for Boro
In hindsight that’s been an absolute triumph in selling at the right time for us. 9 goals in 3 injury ravaged years for them. More than a million quid a goal we’ve ended up with.

I do still feel a certain sadness for him in what could have been, though. Think he could have made the step up to the PL if he’d stayed fit.

Yeah i know, it was one of the worst injuries possible for a footballer to get. It was even more sickening for us that we'd only just got him back from a long-term injury and then he done that in a Cup match when we were in a promotion battle. We'd have won the playoffs that season if we'd have kept him fit, and didnt have every single CB injured against Luton who had a team of giants.

We were cursed that season.

It's a shame that signing for a huge club can really hurt a player's career. Not only can they not get in the team but other clubs later have problems affording them.

Always a loan option, I suppose.
Or they bite the bullet and see if they can live on £75-90k per week. I know it must be difficult and they might have to tighten a few buttons but if they want to play more often.....:emoticon-0136-giggl

There's no doubt Ballard is PL level. He'll be in the eye of one or two clubs higher up than us. In my opinion,he,along with Hume,O9, Riggy and Enzo have benefited so much from playing with these other players. It was more or less obvious as the season went on.......they just looked better. If we add quality,it brings the standards up.
Technically, the only clubs higher up than us right now are in the Champions League <whistle> I'm not sure he's quite at the point of attracting interest from Real and Bayern just yet... ;)

Hard to believe now but there were lots of people who thought he'd need to be replaced.
