How are Labour doing after their first 12 months

I expect with the budget John Healey was given, that's all he could afford, toy boats.

I think this resignation and disclose will probably be Starmers downfall now. John Healey wanted £28B and got promised £13.5B instead. Yet the UK in total has commited £21.8B to Ukraine.

Me being more the hardliner towards Ukraine and the EU, I know what I'd do. Then when they stamp their feet and scream, I'd turn round and say, stop the boats then I will reconsider.

Our own borders come first, give the money and resources to our own forces, I'm not in the mood for doing favours anymore. Oh and let's not forget the £662M promised to France, I can get @Sucky to man a gun boat for less. :bandit:

The problem is the MOD stretch themselves too thin for the budget and size that they are.

We have so many joint operations with the US that we are always all over the place. Is anyone ever surprised when the "struggling" armed forces are suddenly off the coast of South America helping the US raid an Iranian ship?

Or we sign a joint defence pact with Australia.

This isn't home defence, this is international geopolitics and they want an extra .5% of the GDP to cover it.

Increase the budget, sure, but also reduce the operational range. The UK armed forces should be based in Europe conducting European operations, use the budget to unhook us from US reliance.

The Bank of England has warned the public against falling for AI-generated scams after deepfake videos of Nigel Farage fighting its governor spread online.

Andrew Bailey, the head of the BoE, said AI-generated content related to central banks was spreading and urged people to be “vigilant”.

He spoke out after the videos of the Reform UK leader and Bailey fighting on the set of BBC One’s Question Time appeared on the social media platform X.

The videos showed the men being separated by police officers and even depict Farage holding a gun while he grapples with Bailey.

Example of the FAKE material, hopefully link works...

Can a country put a fixed limit on its population? That is the question Switzerland will be answering on Sunday when voters go the polls to decide on a proposal to cap their population at 10 million.

The move is backed by the right-wing Swiss People's Party, which describes it as a "sustainability initiative" aimed at easing pressure on housing, public services and the environment.

The Swiss government, all other major parties, business leaders and trade unions have dubbed the proposal a "chaos initiative", arguing it will deprive hospitals and hotels of much needed staff, and damage hard-won relations with the European Union, leaving non-EU member Switzerland isolated in a very risky world.

Switzerland's population has grown rapidly since 2002, when it stood at 7.3 million. Now it is 9.1 million, 27% of whom are foreign residents.

Many voters are concerned by overcrowded trains, expensive apartments and rising health costs.

The latest opinion polls indicate this could be a very close vote.
