Not sure about land tax, one acre of land may only be good for keeping a few sheep on while another acre could house a factory producing widgets and generate an income of millions.

Seems to be a lot of jobs especially in supermarkets for upto 20hrs a week, apparently the worker will still be able to claim benefits and the company doesn't have to provide holiday, sick pay and other full time worker costs.
Appraisal still exists in countries with a land value tax. It’s based on the value of land rather than purely a measurement of land.

They received Billions in Green credits .
This was how they where declaring profits when there really wasn't a profit being made .
A lot of their profit is via these credits
From what understand, they receive green credits, as do all US car-makers, but then turn them into a profit by selling them to the legacy car-makers, who are still producing fossil fuel vehicles and need the credit to avoid punitive fines.

But either way, all car makers receive subsidies as countries want the factories for employment and tax purposes.

Made over $11 Billion selling credits that where issued by various states .
Effectively free money then .

Ye i agree. But without subsidy, how do you get carmakers to adopt and sell more expensive green technology?

Either way, I don't have a problem with some subsidies to promote growth or establish companies in certain areas, but this is different to subsidising employee costs whilst paying dividends to shareholders.

Build your own company then?
It could also be argued that the company owner has generated £53k tax & NI. And they'll be paying all sorts of other taxes, costs, duties, whatever to the government.
Did you see the social media post over the weekend using the example of the entrepreneurial person wanting to open a 'simple' coffee shop? It detailed all the taxes, costs, regulation, planning, legislation, hurdles, barriers, etc etc that they had to overcome just in order to open a coffee shop these days. When you see it all laid out, you do wonder why anyone bothers anymore.
That is an utterly ridiculous antagonistic generalisation and over simplication…to coin a phrase!

My 2nd eldest daughter(40 years old) is a single parent with a 7 year old daughter(long story but her partner was a complete and utter waster who spent his time and his money in the pub).Obviously because of the little one she can't commit to full time work(although my wife and I can,and do, help her out so she can work).

She claims this working tax credit and gets help with rent etc, works as a G.P receptionist, minimum wage. They are struggling to fill vacant positions, wonder why? and as such they've been asking existing staff to do overtime. She's agreed to do 2 hrs per day extra to help out but here's the thing.Because her credits are worked out on her earnings she gets money took off if she earns more.

Last week she did 10 hrs more and was better off by £15 nett? There's no wonder some single parents restrict their working hrs deliberately in order to refrain from flogging themselves to death with no incentive.I've told her I personally wouldn't do it but she's an obliging lass and I can't knock her for that...
That's something I've had to think about recently, as there was a marginally higher paid role at my company and we receive credits due to family circumstances, but between the decrease in credits and the increase in cost to commute (compared to my current 100% remote role), we would have actually been slightly worse off, so I never applied.

Also minimum wage for a GP surgery reception is ridiculous.

That is an utterly ridiculous antagonistic generalisation and over simplication about people's (imo valid) concerns about benefits and the welfare bill more generally.
And most people would likely have concerns about both situations (appropriate taxing of billionaires & associated compaines) as well as the welfare bill.
They will have concerns but most will veer towards lower class because that is where they are pushed .
Yes the welfare bill does need looking at but at the same time where are the jobs to filter people into ?

I agree with this and we've had this discussion before.I worked for William Grants Whisky(agency fork lift driver but left 2 years ago).I was well paid but on the production side there were some on the bottling lines on minimum wage, this for Scotland's 2nd richest man(bloke called Glenn Gordon, worth approx £6 billion). Some of the lasses were claiming Working Tax Credits and this bloke was coining it in...Just wrong!!!!

Here's another curious one that might interest some as well.

It shouldn't be necessary obviously, but couldn't they pay her the overtime by a different method, something like gift cards for a supermarket or similar?

In other news, not knowing if this has been mentioned already, but why a bank holiday for Scotland when the match it relates to is at 2a.m. on the Sunday before? And why anyway (sorry Ric)?

Which is fair enough, time to scrap the ninety day visiting guff though, make it a week. :emoticon-0138-think

It's our time.

It is not 90 Days. It is 90 Nights. Get up at the crack of sparrow farts, head to the airport, board first flight to London, do a days work, get late plane back, and home. You can do that all working week. Commuting on a different level.

We had our retail business for 32 years before selling and retiring five years ago. During that time we took on up to a hundred Saturday (and holiday) staff almost all young kids still at school. Yes they were cheaper than full time employees but the full timers generally didn’t want to work Saturdays because of family commitments so it all worked out fine. However, if we still had the business I doubt we would employ the same number of employees as due to the government the cost of employing people is prohibitive.

No need to apologise to me,I can't stomach the Scottish Parliament.

It's not a national public holiday,it's a freebie for Council workers, government depts, health centres,NHS staff etc...The plebs aren't getting it nor are HMRC because they're run from England.

Essentially,as mentioned previously it's a crowd pleaser/vote winner funded by the current First Minister for the first minister...The Baldy Bastard!!!I

Meanwhile the Scottish NHS is all but gone and the town's and City's are sh!tholes...Makes perfect sense eh? :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Ah, didn't realise it isn't universal. Quite provocative.
