Good Morning. It's Friday 5th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road
Statement of intent as Ampadu commits to 2030
Ethan Ampadu has committed his long-term future to Leeds after putting pen to paper on a new four-year contract extension that will keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2030. The announcement, made yesterday, brings an end to speculation surrounding the Welsh international's future and signals the club's clear intent to build their Premier League project around their talisman. While the specific financial terms remain confidential, the deal represents a substantial upgrade to his previous salary, reportedly increasing his weekly wages from £40,000 to £90,000 a week, placing him among Leeds United's highest earners.
Since arriving from Chelsea in 2023, Ampadu has emerged as an indispensable figure in Daniel Farke's setup, transforming into the defensive anchor and on-field general that Leeds have craved for years. Across 126 appearances in all competitions, the 25-year-old has compiled a record that speaks for itself, anchoring a defence that proved crucial in securing the club's top-flight status this season. His exceptional campaign culminated in him sweeping the club's major individual awards, claiming both the Player of the Year accolade and the Players' Player of the Year honours recognising his influence both on the pitch and within the dressing room.
Leeds United Chairman Paraag Marathe expressed the club's delight at securing their skipper's services, describing Ampadu as the fundamental cornerstone around which the club intends to build during the forthcoming summer transfer window. In a message delivered directly to the club's passionate support base, Marathe emphasised that the extension represents far more than a contractual formality, it is a statement of intent from a club determined to establish themselves as consistent Premier League contenders.
For his part, Ampadu admitted that having his future "sorted" comes as a immense relief, allowing him to fully focus on maintaining the club's upward momentum without the distraction of transfer speculation that had intensified as he approached the final year of his previous agreement, which had been set to run until 2027 with an optional further twelve months. The new deal not only protects Leeds' asset but also provides Farke with the foundation upon which to construct his squad for the seasons ahead, knowing his leader and inspiration will be present for the journey.

Could Darlow, Cairns and Perri all be staying?
Leeds United have given the most telling sign yet that Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Lucas Perri may all be part of the club’s plans next season, by putting the trio front and centre in the launch of the 2026‑27 away kit and the new goalkeeper strips. The Whites unveiled their latest yellow away jersey, the second such colour to appear in the past three campaigns, during a televised event at Elland Road. The design pays homage to the Championship title‑winning 24/25 kit, reusing the iconic “Smiley” badge that adidas bought back for that memorable season and incorporating a subtle nod to the club’s heritage with a clean, modern silhouette.
The timing of the reveal is significant. Both Darlow and Cairns are out of contract at the end of this month. By modelling the new keepers kits, does it indicate that they are expected to remain in West Yorkshire beyond the summer? Sources close to the club suggest that Cairns is being groomed for a possible transition into a coaching role, while Darlow is in talks over a contract extension that would keep him at Leeds for at least another year.

Leeds rubbish Summerville clause rumour
Recent speculation on social media suggesting Leeds United will pocket £4m-£5m if Crysencio Summerville earns his first senior cap for Holland are wide of the mark, according to Leeds-Live this morning. Club sources have unequivocally refuted the claim, stating that no such contract clause ever existed in the forward’s 2024 transfer to West Ham United. The original transaction was structured as a base fee of £26 million, supplemented only by standard performance‑related add‑ons, with no bonus linked to international appearances.
When Summerville moved from Leeds to West Ham in 2024, the deal was framed around a guaranteed £26 million payment, plus potential add‑ons tied to club achievements such as league position or European qualification. Leeds officials have emphasised that the paperwork contains no provision for an international‑debut payment, thereby dispelling the circulating rumour of a multi‑million‑pound incentive. The misunderstanding appears to have arisen from misinterpretations of standard add‑on clauses that are common in high‑profile transfers, rather than from any genuine contractual term.
Summerville, 24, is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer after West Ham were relegated to the Championship, with Roma hot favourites for his signature. Alas, Leeds don't have a sell on clause either. Leeds do however have a sell on clause with French side Toulouse FC with Charlie Cresswell. The Whites will pocket 15% of any profit made on that deal, when the former England U21 defender moves club.
