Solak: I think the Daniel signing is a statement. I hope that in the next couple of days that we will have more that will show that very early in the window, actually even before the window opens I think, that we are showing that we mean serious business.
Eduard Spertsyan What you saying bruv?

Solak says he has authorised the signing of a top player who can be creative and help Finn Azaz, as right now all of our creative reliance in midfield is on Azaz and if he's having a quiet game we don't have anyone else. Having another player like that will help, we can play the two together and/or rotate them

Otherwise, he says that business this summer will be based on signing direct replacements for any players who leave. Happy with squad size and team showed last season what they are capable of, so doesn't feel it needs a huge overhaul like in previous years
This is good because it is the most obvious squad gap we had in the run in apart from backup right back

And we tried to keep him.

Not sure I get your point on loyalty.

He used a technicality in the contract. Hardly screams of wanting to stay with us.

And after all we did standing by him whilst he was always injured. Shows the character of the man for me.

Maybe the fact we left it to that point in the first place made him think we were only going to bother if we didn't go up?

Not really as we knew, well did know until we were removed, that we still had time.

And maybe we wouldn’t have activated it if we were promoted. I wouldn’t have as I don’t think he is good enough for the EPL, but he knew those were the dice.

The fact he now has used this incident is really ****ty.

I hope we don’t retain him, really soured his progress last season for me has this.

But if we wanted to keep him regardless we wouldn't have needed to wait, we could have just activated it whenever presumably? Maybe the fact we didn't meant he wasn't feeling the love.

And arguably us not wanting him if we're promoted goes to the loyalty thing - "thanks for all your efforts but now we've achieved our goals we're letting you go".

We're entitled to do that of course, just as he's entitled to get the best deal for himself personally.

One thing's for sure anyway, in the future we'll be rewording those sorts of clauses!

Yeah I do understand this point of view, it is the contract technicality that he has exploited that is unhappy with considering we supported him lots.

I really hope he doesn’t sign on now and takes his chances elsewhere. Shame as I think he’d have a cracking season with us.

Yeah this. There are very few of our squad that I would want if we were in the PL, Bree and Stewart are both on that list of “no thanks”.

Football is a business which the players will be very aware of so no problem in him seeking the best deal he can, and Saints trying to get the best deal they can. Now Larin has signed the thinking might be we don’t need Stewart as much, one year extension is all we will offer. Let another Champ team offer him a longer deal and take the risk if they want

Bree the same, one year deal so we can move on if we go up. If he can get better elsewhere then fair enough wouldn’t blame him for leaving.

I wonder how much time we will give him to make up his mind? Was that mentioned? Obviously his contract is up at the end of the month but do we give him that long especially with the World Cup on? And we’ll need a replacement if he doesn’t stay on

Sounds like there was an auto year extension that needed to be triggered within a certain amount of days after the last game of the season in his final year. We triggered it as soon as we knew that we were kicked out, but technically that was after the amount of days needed so his lawyers are saying we were too late.

We’ll have to offer him a whole new deal now as, even if it’s a technicality, it still makes us unable to trigger an auto extension. I assume we’ll put the offer on the table sooner rather than later but he’s well within his rights to see what else is out there.

I do get that mate, I just think ultimately you have to play the situation that's in front of you. He has to think about his own situation and given he's unlikely to play to an old age the next deal he signs may be his last on big money.

If he knows there's other clubs interested who'll offer him more (in totality) then he'd be daft to commit himself to a year here.

I'd like him to stay, one of favourite players in the squad currently and an excellent one to have at this level, having him and Larin to rotate the second half of the season was a huge part of our success imo.

I highly doubt we'll get anyone at the same standard to replace him when we're not getting a fee.

I actually think technically he has the ability to play in the PL, just not sure his fitness would hold up. Think he's more suited to it than Larin personally.

Yeah it’s more the injury stuff for him. Larin wouldn’t hack it in the PL, I’m confident in that. If we had gone up I’d would’ve been fine moving on from both and rolling the dice on a new signing or two.

Yeah I think Larin would struggle too. First touch often poor and while that's not a big issue in the championship you'll rarely get away with that against PL defenders.
