Beautiful country, I am going on hols there again this year. A couple of days in the capital is well worth a visit and the coast is stunning, I think Maribor is further north.

When I was considerably younger,me and the girlfriend (now slave:emoticon-0127-lipss),went to a place called Kranjska Gora, way up North.Generally recognised as a ski resort but we went in the Summer.

What a stunning little place it was with scenery to die for and beautiful walks...Oh to be young again!!

I have seen that and it looks amazing. I am thinking of going to Lake Bled at some stage and I thinks it's fairly close.

Been to Kranjska Gora several times, absolutely stunning countryside, very close to the Italian and Austrian borders. Used to walk over the Italian border, you waved your passports at the Italian Border officers sat in their office as you head over the border. They had no interest in actually looking at the passports, you could waved an Argos catalogue wrapped in a red cover and they wouldn't have put down their coffee.

Used to stop at the Hotel Alpine or the Hotel Larix, - good hotels with excellent food and fair prices as well. The Larix had a very good spa, swimming pool complex and very good sauna facilities - it was our first introduction to the 'no swimwear to be worn in the sauna!' Quite eye opening!

@Ric Glasgow did you go in the Vopa (Bat) Bar next to the Mercator shop? Sunday afternoons were great in there. You would have 50 german registered motorcyles parked outside. You would have thought it was Hells Angels riding into town over the nearby Austrian border but it was German accountants and engineers in full leathers having an afternoon ride out! :emoticon-0140-rofl:

It's our time.

No where is really far away in Slovenia, unless you're walking of course. Lovely little country. When doing lake Bled (well worth doing) you have to try the cake which the area is famous for the name of which escapes me.

Highly recommended country especially on a motorbike.

Will try that cake. Yes the country has everything. Discovered it through watching England. Based ourselves in Piran a couple of times. The coastline is so small as well so very close to Croatia and Italy.

It was back in 1979/1980 but Google images tell me it was the Hotel Alpina?

Sold Tuborg Beer and Cherry Brandy, the rest is a bit of a blur so I'm not sure if that bar was open back then but if it were I'm pretty sure they'd still have a photo above the bar of a very young Ric with the words 'Lifetime ban' in bold type underneath... :emoticon-0103-cool:

The scenery was stunning and from memory alcohol prices were extremely low.I also played tennis a few times on a clay court in front of one of the other hotels but can't remember the name of it?

Joking aside It would be lovely to go back there :emoticon-0148-yes:
