What a fantastic day yesterday was for everyone connected to the club.
Congratulations to all within the club for a stunning last day which was pitch perfect.
We’ve had a year that will live with us forever.
Great to hear Xhaka saying that this is just the start.
Looking forward to the summer and then onto next season and Europe.
This fanbase really deserved that yesterday and I see we are already being written off by the ex player experts for next year. They never learn. Long may it continue.
Have a great summer all.
Right about some these ex pros mind.

They judge everything through a lazy prism of what has sometimes happened before.

You go up? You'll be coming down.

You go up in the play offs? No point in coming, down by Christmas.

You sign a dozen players? Can't be done, never works.

You get a manager who has never been in England before last year? He has no chance.

You have a young man as an owner? His callow youth is a liability.

You start a season with only one player with real Prem experience? Borderline stupidity, asking to go down.

And more. Just lazy, cliche ridden unthinking telly babble.

If any of them had looked a bit closer and thought a bit more deeply, they would not look so stupid now.

It's only a couple of months back when someone, on here, said, 'Thankfully we can now forget about Europe' ...

... now we'll never forget it and the memories will last a lifetime.
You have to wonder, the way he went on, how he’s feeling now!! Probably sat in a dark room somewhere as there’s no negativity!!!

I didn't really notice that yesterday but I've seen it since.

So good to see players being genuinely chuffed about it. No cynical and faux complacency, just real joy. Even from Xhaka, who has seen most things.

Great signs.

noticed it at the end of the game, sat here with my son having a laugh at them looking for a screen to watch, then the realisation hit them...now, the bench could easily have kept them up to date or the lads could have asked the fans but i am pleased they wanted to be kept 'out of it' until our game was over, we were not the only ones with 10+ minutes added on so keeping the concentration was vital.

nah, you forget about summit and it is gone, we may have 'stuck it to one side' for a while but we never forgot about it.

I don't watch it, and almost never watch the BBC, and refuse to pay for it.

In the case of Shearer, it is obvious that he is one of those people who we used to call a "greaser", or a "crawler". He knows how to cultivate the right relationships, and that has clearly got him the job, as he demonstrably lacks any clarity of thought or any ability to articulate an original opinion. Some footballers can do this, though experienced ex managers are almost always far better at it.
The BBC has had accusations of nepotism and cronyism for decades, it's often been said it's not what you know but who you know that gets you on at certain levels in the BBC. Keith Chegwin was inflicted on the world because he was Maggie Philbin's boyfriend at the time. Zoe Ball was long accused of getting her career started because she was Johnny Ball's daughter, Ed "Stewpot" Stewart was alleged to have gotten his job on BBC radio because his girlfriend (later wife) was the daughter of a BBC executive. Noel Edmonds, Gloria Hunniford, Bruce Forsyth among others have been accused over the years of pulling strings for friends or family to get jobs at the BBC, Nepo babies like Claudia Winkleman. Then you consider the cover ups for Saville, Stewart Hall, Rolf Harris and others under Yewtree showed how the cronyism to protect their own went on and almost certainly still does.

Shearer fits into this well, cronyism from networking to get the job and the same thing to make sure no one upsets him (he'll use the cronyism networking to get you sidelined if you do). The old boys network, all pals together, "get my mate a job, please, as a favour", "I got you a job so you owe me one". You'd not be surprised if it came out that half of the senior BBC presenters and executives are Freemasons, there so much nepotism and cronyism going on.

That would about right. Rumours were rife at the time he was playing for those lot that it was written into his contract that he would be the highest earner at the club so anyone who came in on more than he got, he got a pay rise. Can't upset the poor little bairn

i honestly stopped watching MotD many years ago but decided to give it a try this season, pretty much just to see if things had changed.

about half way through the season i stopped watching again then decided to watch the last one...the complete and total bias was fully evident right through then our game finally got a mention, a forced 'well done sunderland' from anal then much talk of chelsea.

now i know we are rarely flavour of the month on such programmes but ffs, just be 'proper growed up adults' and give teams the due they have earned and deserve, i dont even feel that arsenal managed a good build up to the title with most more bothered about man city taking the title away from them, they did get a wee bit of coverage at the end.

Did an 'internal chat' help Black Cats secure Europe?

Luke O'Nien spoke to BBC Radio Newcastle after Sunderland qualified for the Europa League: "What these boys have achieved, I am unbelievably proud.

"Six weeks or so ago, we had a chat among us. We knew we were safe but we wanted more. We had an internal chat. We are quietly confident lads and we were looking at Europe. We put our neck on the line and said that out loud in the group to have our standards higher.

"We are a good team, but the way we turned in to a top team was from the standards and training intensity. We set ourselves a goal and we trained like we were in Europe.

"Am I surprised at where we are? Yes - but also no because of the level the boys showed all season, especially in the past six weeks when we knew what was at stake."

Yes I heard his interview on the pitch earlier. He was so impressed with the professionalism of the players we brought in and their desire to succeed and get us into Europe.

Keep this team together with a few extra star players and we can push for Champions League in 2026/7. Or maybe just win the Europa League instead!!

One thing is certain, the only players leaving will be the ones the club want to leave. Hopefully Geetruida is not one of them, Ghisolfi had a long chat and embrace with him at the end of game.
