I’d have taken Palmer, Wharton and Gibbs-White but I haven’t seen the actual squad yet so don’t know who I’d replace or if those three deserve a place more than who has been picked. If Henderson is still getting picked then I’m lost for words. To be fair, Palmer had one good season and he got put into world-class territory by some pundits way too early on the back of that. Foden has seemingly peaked too early in his career too.

England only have Harry Kane and maybe Jude Bellingham as truly world-class players. Everyone else is either a tier or two below that.

Think any other country would be calling Foden world class.

It's a bit strange when you look back 2-3 years at the young players we were excited about then and how few of them are even involved any more. The likes of Mount, Sancho, Foden, TAA, Palmer were meant to be the future of England but none are in this squad seemingly. Even Saka has gone backwards a bit from where he was. Seems like we get a lot of players to an incredible level at a young age but then they drop off quite dramatically as they get into their 20s for whatever reason.

Expected England World Cip Squad - Pickford, Henderson, Trafford, James, Livramento, O'Reilly, Spence, Konsa, Guehi, Stones, Quansah, Burn, Rice, Anderson, Henderson, Mainoo, Bellingham, Rogers, Eze, Saka, Madueke, Rashford, Gordon, Toney, Kane and Watkins.
****ing hell hendersons **** and he’s picked him twice !!

Probably burnt out from being overused while still a young player, going back a few years look at Michael Owen. Playing so many games at a young age can cause injuries and burnout. Why Vardy is still playing at the age he is, didn’t turn professional till mid 20’s.

I hope to be surprised but that Squad looks ****e to me
Dan burn ffs
Our only hope is if he finds a way to get Bellingham and kane to play well together

I could maybe understand the Maguire decision, if he hadn't picked Dan Burn instead.

Foden has been reduced to back-up so no real surprise he doesn't make the squad, especially considering he's never done it for England (4 goals in 49 caps). Palmer hasn't been great either, so same. I'm surprised about Bowen and Maguire though, as they've both done well

This keeps getting trotted out
But what have the players he’s picked done?? **** all

Would have taken Maguire and Palmer over Burn and Henderson, not surprised Foden and Bowen miss out. O'Reilly well deserved but Mainoo not so sure if over hyped?

So what's your starting XI?
......................Pickford
James.. Konsa.. Guehi.. Livramento
..... Rice...... Rodgers.... Anderson
..... Rashford...Kane...Saka

That lot should get us out of the group. After that q/fs or s/fs, then home.
I'm guessing a lot of the subs will be getting a game because of (a) the heat, (b) plan B, and (c) panic

Surprised at Spence, Mainoo, and Toney...What's he done in Saudi?

Arteta has worked Saka like a mule. He’s in his mid-20s and his hamstrings are likely ****ed already. He’s a good player but not world-class. He’s a good dribbler and can cut inside and score some great goals but he’s not exceptionally creative for a winger and his goalscoring is nowhere near Salah’s in the same position.

So you’ve got a player who isn’t particularly creative, his goals and assists record per season is average and his body is already breaking down during what should be the peak years of his career.

Palmers groin injury is permanent from what i read
Can only be managed
He will never be the player he was

Foden has some mental health problems currently from what i read

Sancho when he was first at dortmund was genuinely nearing world class
