Labour leadership jostling puts Brexit back under political spotlight

Leaving was an idiotic thing to do in the first place. Quite apart from the huge diplomatic, business and economic harm that it inflicted on the country, rejoining (if they’ll have us) is undoubtedly the right thing to do now in response to a newly isolationist and unreliable America.

Brexit was doomed to failure....because it was overseen by remainers who made sure that it didn't stand a chance of being successful.

The EU is achieving nothing....it has too many different factions....and some States are more aligned with Putin's ideas than of a United Europe .

Ukraine would be an asset to the EU.....but there is only support at a low financial level to support them from a so called European power house (EU) in their fight for independence against Putin's Russia.

Explain how it could have been successful since it involved severely damaging trading relationships with all neighbouring countries?

Popped over to BBC One just in time to see the final moments of our humiliation in the Eurovision song contest.

What intrigued me was which country felt the the UK's "song" deserved one vote.....having seen it earlier on the news I just wondered where we found this fellow to perform it.....he was more than weird....how do we always get it so wrong these days.

Did they give out medals to those who sat through 4 hrs of that.

While you’re at it, please explain how it couid have been successful when it involved leaving the umbrella EU government borrowing arrangement, so that now we’re paying between 2 and 3 times what we otherwise would have. That’s 2 or 3 times more than Italy for example.

The power of red tape suffocated any forward movement.....and how on earth did we allow N Ireland to fall through the cracks and be hung drawn and quartered by a EU who bent over backwards to punish us for daring to leave their closed shop.

notDistant we must agree to differ over Brexit and how it has panned out......just not worth being abused because of my differing views over it.....so I will try not to bite when the subject comes up.

Did you batten the hatches down and watch the Eurovision garbage last night....if you did...then your a better man than me Gunga Din.

What's it like to be a career victim I wonder. Abused at every turn it seems. The one thing you cannot accuse notdistant of being is an abuser and I have to say he demonstrates far more restraint than I ever could. What you don't like is being challenged and what you failed to do above is explain any reasoning. You've obviously read somewhere that Brexit was scuppered by non believers deliberately. It's just plain old rubbish like a lot of stuff spouted in newspapers and social media. Even the most stupid of people would realise that the EU would not be happy with a deserter and would dish out some punishment. That wasn't anything to do with the non believers. Why would anyone think we would be rewarded? I have yet to hear anyone come up with how much better off they are for having left the EU and how much better off law wise they are in their personal life. We will be better off and not controlled by others making our laws was a cry heard in the build up to the vote. So where is the extra cash and how has my life changed law wise? The Country has been scuppered by the Brexit brigade who lied and lied to get their way. Farage is now doing it in the same way to get the popular vote.

It's not even punishment though is it? If you are a member, you benefit from advantages. When you leave, those benefits stop. That's not punishment, it's your choice.

Nevertheless, I dare say the Europeans were a bit miffed. We are with France, Germany and Italy, a major European nation (populations over 60m). We are an island but only 20 miles away at Dover. As I said before, we are all democracies etc etc. We have a natural place in Europe and if we grew up, could be a major influence. From my experience of working with people across northern Europe, they want us in. It's clearly in our national interests, financially, diplomatically and militarily to be in.

So, what's the issue?

I do remember long back when Maggie Thatcher did the only thing I have ever agreed with her about....she put her foot down over the excessive payments we were making to the EU (or was it the EC in those days ?) and demanded a rebate......we were disproportionately paying more than was fair......the EU especially France had always screwed us for every penny (or franc in those days) they could get.

Oh Maggie did do one other thing that I agreed with.....she resigned.

Waymo driverless cars become trapped in Atlanta suburb after glitch.

Multiple empty Waymo cars have been spotted driving around a cul-de-sac in Atlanta, Georgia....in the early hours of the morning.

How was that measured then? I think I'm paying far too much tax. In fact I know it. Who should I ask?

Moving on.

Bullshit. I know it and as you've displayed over the last few months, the rest of the world knows it,

Red tape bollocks. Businesses love the idea of frictionless trade. One set of product standards, no export hoops to jump though, one product, 20x the market.

Northern Ireland is a special case, best solved by respecting other people’s religion.

By the way, in case you don’t know, the Comonweath games were held in what’s now Manchester City’s ground. But after the games, it was dug down another level to reduce the playing area to football pitch size with a commensurate increase in crowd capacity.

In other words, it’s now too small for athletics unless you’re going to give discounts to those sitting at the far end of the javelin competition and have 25 laps for the 1,000 metres.

Had trouble getting on this site today....tried three different websites before getting on.

1.....Being told that I had to prove I wasn't a Robot (bot).....and wouldn't accept my answer.
2.....Also telling me to try again later.....and only got on here many tries later.....using Opera website at the moment.

Anyone else having difficulties.....or is it just me ?
