Just read a lawyers view on this…far too long to go into, but basically Saints have enough of a case to legally tie the EFL in knots. If removed from final (unlikely) he says first step would be a high court injunction to stop the final being played without Southampton. And MIDDLESBROUGH could be sued for damaging our business reputation disproportionately. Could bankrupt epl and Boro…interesting as that sounds, not likely to happen as EPL must be aware that this could happen.

Also points out that the EPL trying to get an early resolution could be considered as impairing Southamptons ability to conduct a defence.

Who knows.

That's interesting if true. We have had a lot of turnover this season iirc?
Even if they have a statement it shouldn't have much impact unless it can be corroborated. Could be a disgruntled ex-employee making **** up without concrete evidence.

I’ve read the same and am not sure how much of it is wishful thinking

I’m sure from the Boro side of the fence they’d basically stamp their feet and say “but they are guilty” repeatedly

I am interesting in if there is any scope for Boro to claim big compensation amounts and try some of the same points listed in that post. I’d expect not because as I mentioned earlier - they’ve actually lost the tie and not qualified for the final and can’t easily prove that they lost just because of the spying. This feels very different to us arguing for disproportionate and unreasonable punishment and an unreasonable shortened process

Incidentally reading into Gibson - it seems this legendary “Don Gibbo” status when it comes to what he will do if this doesn’t go his way comes from him going after Derby for £45m (trying to liquidated them in the process) and settling for an amount rumoured to be £2m (or less than 5%). Not quite what the Boro fans are making out

So quite why they think if we went up we’d be giving them £20m+ in compensation I do not know. As I’ve said already - if they want that much from us then it will involve Hackney or Whittaker in a Saints shirt next season
