I don't think he did. The Leeds player gets to it first because of the height difference.

But I do think he (Ampadu?) moves his head in a downward motion hoping for contact with Tel's boot, which is why I didn't initially think it should have been a penalty.

A moment of idiocy from Tel.

Wouldn't have mattered if Richarlison could score from 3 yards out, mind.

Still seething about that.
Consistency. I am absolutely sure that a foul (hence pen in this case) will/has been given for these. I'm pretty sure that some spectacular overhead kicks that scored had the scorers boot close to the defenders head. I'm also sure that people doing overhead kicks have connected with opposition players they don't know are there before, and nothing has been given.

Individual brain farts must have cost us 20 points across this season, Danso v Brighton, VDV v Palace, Tel today etc etc the list is endless, add that to endless missed chances from our poverty forward line and you see the result.

Chelsea have been absolute dogshiete of late, but you just know they will be on it when they face Spurs, facking hate that club, I can see Moyes` dogs of war doing a number on us also, given our fear of playing at home. It`s going to be arce clenching stuff.
Yeah Chelsea will be so up for it. They really don’t need a reason to beat us as it is but the chance to put a nail in our coffin? They’ll be going full PSG against us.

It’s really not.

I’m no fan of VAR and there’s been some highly questionable calls over the years but the replay shows Nmecha getting the slightest of touches on the ball. VAR essentially done its job there, unfortunately for us.
Honestly, 50/50 on that: while he did get a touch, it didn't appear to influence the ball's trajectory - and that's where it gets murky, because if the ball maintains trajectory it is harder to say he won a tackle, especially as he makes contact with Madders after he touched the ball

I have less issue with that because a player’s trying to score an unbelievable goal, worst case if a player does balls it up and hits a defender, he’ll give a way a foul.

Tel in this instance has the chance to head it away, instead he goes full idiot and tries doing the ridiculous in his own box knowing full well the consequences.

It’s the idiocy amongst this squad that has me seething at times. I don’t think I’ve ever known a Tottenham team who’ve committed such stupid errors as much as this one.

To their credit, Leeds have only lost four games since the turn of the year, three of them by a single goal.

Our problem is we're coming up against teams who have been playing much better than us for much longer, and unless they're daydreaming like Villa were, it really shows. Leeds' passing and movement was much better than ours, and their fitness levels also looked superior.

We already know it to be the case, but this squad needs to be gutted and built from scratch in the summer. It is so poor.

Yeah this squad is awful. Truly awful.

My worry if Spurs survive is that again those in charge will put too much blame on Frank & Tudor and think the current squad is fine

I hope the proactive moves for Senesi and Robertson are an early indicator of intent, at least insofar as we are looking to stop relying on children to improve us.

Lack of European money will hurt us but I'd imagine we're anticipating a windfall from selling players. If we stay in the PL, that windfall can be used on the squad. If we go down, it will probably be used to balance out the enormous revenue losses.

I think our biggest problem is and has been our attack.

We’ve gone from having two of the world’s best with some decent enough help alongside them in the likes of Dele, Lamela, Moura or even Bale for a year, to two of the worst strikers in the Prem and other players who wouldn’t start for anyone in the top 15.

Solanke, Richarlison, Tel and Odobert all need shipping out in the summer whilst Kolo heads back to Paris’ reserves.

Last summer the board's mistake was to presume the injuries alone were the problem, so worked on the basis that having a fully* fit squad would turn things aorund - and had a pretty passive manager who wouldn't rock the boat

And then came Injury Crisis 2: Cruise Control, exacerbated by Frank being full deer in headlights when it hit, and the squad started straight up ignoring him shortly afterwards

Can't see De Zerbi being such a wallflower

De Zerbi won’t put up with it for sure. In they respect he’s very much like Conte.

Will the board give him what he wants though?

Add to that we straight up don't get the current meta

The current meta is to have a Firmino-like player as a CF (outside of having a freak like Haaland), so while they won't be getting 20+ goals in the league they get plenty but their role is G&A involvement is going to be 20+ easily

And this is the part about Harry Kane leaving: he was that Firmino-like player, yet also had the 20+ goal return as well, and we replaced him with...

...ah...

...well here's the issue: we moved Richy up a spot, seem to have forgotten how Paratici was cuing up Dusan Vlahovic as the succession plan (which would have likely been a bust, given he's habitually injured, but still...) and we added Solanke due to Ange's system preferred strikers that hassle defenders over ones who score, yet all three are strikers who need to be fed and have limited ability to feed others

If touching the ball negates the foul, why do Romero and VdV get cards when they do it

I don’t even look at things like meta to be honest, I wouldn’t say Arsenal have as such and they’re about to win the league with Gyokeres up front who’s a natural 9. I just look for the desired quality in a position.

We just lack so much quality it’s honestly worrying.

Richarlison’s spent his career in England battling relegations, Solanke has been relegated and somehow we’ve forked out £125m on them, the fact Richarlison is a better finisher than Solanke is also deeply worrying. Kolo’s surprised me at how bad he’s been. Tel will show a moment of brilliance every 10 games then disappear, Odobert just runs into the opposition and the only two forwards worth their salt are injured and that useless ****, Lange, decided we should try and get by without them. First person out the door needs to be him.

Agreed. Has been the case all season.

There is zero synergy between them.

Zero anything between them.

Relegation calibre players currently leading the line in a team in a relegation battle. I knew the post Kane and Son era would be tough, I just never expected it to be this bad though it shouldn’t be, if we had competent people in charge they’d have signed some adequate players at the least.

I honestly wanna high five Lange in the face with a brick. I blame about 75% of our potential relegation on him. No wonder Villa fans were cheering when he left.

So who's everyone picking for their "big Prem team" to support next season when we're in the EFL? It's between Bournemouth and Brighton for me

on my way home...took 45 mins to get into the station...was having flash backs to the Wembley seasons!
Think that at best we will get one point v Everton...they are in form so can and could be in the fight for European football so can see us losing...we rarely even get a draw at Chelsea let alone a win...IF we manage 1pt from those 2 games then we need west ham to lose one of their matches. IF we get 0 pts (very probable) then we are dependant on both Toon AND Leeds not not losing.
The only good thing is that it's in our own hands still ... somehow!

I was by corner flag in south stand (the other end from the penalty) and thought it was going to be a penalty as soon as it happened... I would want us to get one in those circumstances.

My gripe with the ref was how he only seemed to see our players pushing and not theirs and was very very inconsistent with his cards. But imho he didnt cost us the game.

As for the game, we did ok but clearly struggle up front...Conte ****ed us by insisting on Richarlison...works hard but is genuinely one of the poorest forwards in the league.

The fans were fantastic throughout.. its why I love going to the lane!

Like others have said...the squad needs gutting but that discussion is for after the season ends.
