Matchday. Woke up at 5am here in Philadelphia and now anxiously awaiting team news and trying to find a way to watch the game

On 'spygate' - I am disappointed we've been caught doing this but I really do feel some of the pearl-clutching is overblown. Is it cheating? Yes it is, but so is diving, so is pretending to have a head injury so the referee doesn't let the opponent keep coming up the field, so is selling your women's team to another company controlled by your owner to skirt the financial rules, so are a litany of other blatant financial doping methods

Saints have not introduced skullduggery and cheating to football. Somebody went and stood on a hill in a public place and tried to find out what formation the other team was playing because they were told to (presumably) and they felt it would aid their career and their employer's performance. It's not the crime of the century. Clubs are at this stuff all of the time, we were just daft enough to get caught and not use a third party to create a larger grey area around what was going on and give ourselves more of a margin for error

We've cheated, we'll be dealt with and rightly so, but I find it so hard to reconcile with the 'I can't get excited for these games' and 'our unbeaten run feels hollow' sentiments. This is small fry in the grand scheme of things and it'll all blow over

Now, I hope we beat Boro and beat them comprehensively. As with every other match, this will be settled on the pitch by the lads who are paid to play. I hope Finn Azaz scores a goal and goads their fans. I hope our supporters are giving them the binoculars celebration by the time the tie is over. It's certainly made the game more emotionally charged on the Boro side and, provided it's channelled in the right ways, I have no issue with that. These ties are meant to be spicy and this one no doubt will be

UTS!
If you've got a lappy, PC or smartarse phone Fawanews or VIPbox, someone local with a sports channel, it's a bit early for a sports bar although under the circumstances I'd be searching for one.

On the spygate stuff, I know there's plenty of other cheating that goes on in football. I just don't want Saints involved in it, regardless of how minor the cheating may be. I'd rather us lose honestly then win having cheated to gain some kind of advantage. We don't have much going for us in the grand scheme of things, we don't win anything, we are often the whipping boys, produce a good player and they are out the door within a year, but you can still be proud of the club when they act professionally and give their all on the pitch. This kind of thing takes away from that feeling for me. Fully agree that in the grand scheme of things that go on, this isn't that outrageous and the advantages you gain are relatively small, but that's not really the point as far as I'm concerned. I want Saints to do things the right way even if nobody else is. Maybe that's a delusional attitude to take, but that's how I feel about it.

Trying to put all that **** to one side and thinking about the football now.
Bad news that Stephens still isn't even able to be on the bench. But good that Matsuki is back to being an option. Greatly improves our attacking options off the bench that looked a bit threadbare otherwise. Happy with the team overall, just hope Downes isn't too rusty. It's going to be a hostile atmosphere for them, but they'll know that. Just got to try and shut that out and play the game. Glad Hackney isn't on their bench for them, think we have a much stronger bench but their starting lineup looks pretty strong, no Hackney aside.

Not really. Obvs didn’t comment on the incident, just saying that we are aiming to win the game just like any other game really. Sky have chosen to air footage of Saints fans with binoculars though. It almost as if they’re trying to wind people up (not Sky surely??)
Sorry but that's on the Saints fans being twats, not Sky.

Tonda with Sky pre-game

on the charges against the club and his response...
I believe the club has made a statement yesterday and that's all I can say at the moment.

on what his opinions are on the practice of observing an opponent's training sessions and how he would feel if it happened to Saints...
I believe that when you come to this stage of the season, it's not coaches winning the games, it's the players. It's going to be exactly the same today.

on what effect he thinks it might have on the games...
We are focused on ourselves. We have been all week. We know that we are facing a good team today and they have been very good for all of the season. It's going to be a big challenge.

on being the form team going into the playoffs and his approach to the game today...
It's two things that we've been consistent with: confidence on one side and on the other side, humility. Humility to know that we are facing a very good team and those are the two things that we need to put together again.

on what would be an acceptable outcome from the first leg...
We always play to win. That hasn't changed over the last weeks and months. We will try to do the same today and then we'll see where we stand.
