If not for the recent sendings off for hair pulling, Ballard might have getting away with it. Seems to me these long haired players are going to use their barnets as a weapon now. One slight tug of a shirt around the shoulders, any sensation they feel around their hair they gonna claim 'hair pull', and often its gonna be difficult to judge the extent. Best way to stop it would be booking shirt pulling. Its cheating. No brainer really.

Surely if these players with long hair/dreadlocks aren't gonna tie it up to the scalp then surely if it swipes someone in the eye then it should be a red card. Sooner or later this is gonna cause huge problems and the governing body needs to be looking into this and making it equal for both sides

Players with long hair will have a huge advantage once they realise the opposition dare not grapple with them because there’s a good chance they will catch some hair and be sent off.
Players with short hair will still be grappled with as normal.
If the players were swapped round the Wolves lad would have had a handful of Dan’s collar and nothing would have happened.

Dreadlocks can give you a nasty whip if they catch you across the face when the player is turning his head quickly and can seriously damage an eye, as has been mentioned a few times on here.

If a player pokes another player in the eye it's classed as violent contact, same should be classed as long hair hitting someone in the eye. It ridiculous but you can't have an advantage because you decide to grow your hair for fashion. Games getting stupid

Fact is every centre half grapples with a centre forward exactly how ballard has. If the centre forward has long hair then this kind of thing is inevitable. I was properly pissed off with Ballard at the time as I was only listening on the radio so hadn't seen it. Now I've seen it I'm properly pissed off with the state of the game and VARs determination to intervene on stupid little things but continue to bottle big decisions. The ref is reluctant to give a penalty or a red card as he believes VAR will let him know. Too many decisions that should be penalties or should be red cards are being ignored under the bullshit premise of "not a clear and obvious error"

Yeah it appears Ballard has pulled some hair but done so in a completely accidental manner. Its hardly violent conduct for ****s sake. If he'd grabbed his hair and yarked him to the ground then fair enough but hes caught a strand of hair accidently when grappling.

VAR should be fine but there is zero common sense used with it. It's a bunch of referees going off a list of rules written in front of them with zero subjectabilty.

Use VAR correctly and get at least 90% of decisions right and nobody will moan. Final point for christ sake what is the point of the referee going to the monitor? The prick in their ear had already made their mind up for them. Have some balls and occasionally stick to your initial view rather than hiding behind some prick 200 miles away.
