Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United, White Hart Lane (21 February 1920)
This photograph from 21 February 1920 captures an FA Cup third-round match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at White Hart Lane. Advertising hoardings around the pitch promote brands such as Claymore whisky, Oxo, Saville Pianos, and Bovril. Crowds pack the stands, reflecting football’s growing popularity after the First World War. Supporters arrived dressed formally, many wearing hats and heavy coats. The match ended with a 3–0 victory for Spurs. Football grounds served as important social gathering places. Advertising boards reveal early sports marketing strategies. This image perfectly illustrates football’s role in post-war British culture.

Former Pompey defender George Ley has passed away aged 80. What a fantastic left foot he had! RIP George <peacedove> <rose>
Voted the best looking footballer in season 1967-1968 when Pompey finished 5th in the second tier. I saw him score a magnificent equalising goal at St Andrew's in that season from around 30 yards out.

Hello Southamptonites, a quick question for you all for those with experience. For the Isle of Wight passenger ferries, are you able to rock up and buy a ticket on the day like you can for a train? I am probably going to the Isle of Wight next weekend but unsure whether to go back on Sunday or Monday so wanted to play it by ear (obviously it would be more expensive but that's to be expected)

Hey Lapras! I live in Ryde. Depends where you are planning to stay on the IOW. Wightlink have passenger ferry from Portsmouth to Ryde, and car ferries from Pompey to Fishbourne (near Wootton), and Lymington to Yarmouth. If you are risking your health ( <laugh> ) in travelling from Southampton to Cowes, then there are both passenger and car ferries available.

Don't know when you are planning to visit, but be very aware that the IOW Festival is due to take place from 18th to 21st June, when all hell lets loose anywhere near Newport with around 100,000 visitors hitting the Island!!

Definitely need to book tickets for any of the ferries well in advance, and not cheap bringing a car over! Any queries, give me a shout <cheers>
