Whats Coyle on a week and what would any potential increase in salary be... 40% ...?
Depends what his contract states, often its double. Relegation clauses are usually half. But obviously things may be tailored differently in some cases.

The theory that some players dont want the promotion sounds wild but ask yourself a question. If you had a chance to do something good for your employer which would elevate the company to a new level but if that elevation almost certainly meant you would either have to leave and move away from the area with your family or stay put with a pay rise but be deeply unhappy, hidden in a back office never getting to the customer face, would you be keen to see the company grow?

We have a very, very limited squad. As our form most of this season has shown. There isn't a cat in hells chance most of them would be wanted to play top flight football.

Is that the type of players you would want around the club? Most players want to play, and the current squad (except two or three) know they are not Premier league level, so would need to move to play.

The club wont want them so will be trying to force them out, and the players wont want to be sitting around playing reserves or even not playing at all if they've got anything about them.
They’re pros that’s what they would do that what their agent would tell them to do
And rightly so
Did sinik rip his contract up? No
Of course threy want to get promoted then they get big bucks whether they play or not
You think Matt crooks at 32 is going to say no I don’t want to be PL even if I’m now on 30 grand a week
I’ll go to a championship club for 15 a week!!
Same with Coyle same with Mcburnie

I think Coyle position within the club isn't playing dependent, a bit more Andy Dawson role and I suspect his contract would reflect that.. but then what do I know...

But they don’t have to move
If Coyle gets an extra ten grand a week as we’re PL why would he move somewhere who won’t pay him that?
He’ll just sit on his contract as they all would and will if we do it
Or they'd take a loan move and stay on the same money. Like Gelhardt with us while on Leeds' books. The increase would definitely be worthwhile for pretty much any player.

The squad will move on anyway, as they always do. 15 of them are out of contract in June 2027, and they're fully aware as a footballer it's a case of 'have boots will travel'. :emoticon-0138-think

Some would, I totally agree. Some, like Coyle, would probably be happy with a Carabao cup game and FA Cup game and sit in the reserves doing community work but plenty wouldn't.
Joseph for example will know he could, given how crap they are, make a Scotland squad playing championship football eventually. He has just about got himself in the managers plans after moving here, you think he would really wanna bail out and start all over again somewhere?

Its not going to be 'open and shut' for many of them but plenty will have doubts about their future if a promotion happened. Could those niggling thoughts be playing a part in these patchy performances? We will never know for sure of course, it was just a theory.

Maybe they would like the chance to play at Wembley in a huge match.

Coyle would I am almost certain carry on being our first choice right back as he has now under countless managers and despite having faced competition from a good number of supposedly ‘better’ players. Most of our team that we actually own would have a role to play in a premier league squad. Joseph likewise, he many not be a great finisher but his running is absolutely world class which would be a big asset to a team such as ourselves.

Jeremy Doku would be having nightmares before that encounter wouldn't he!

Don't get promotion bonuses mixed up with promotion wage increases, which are very much standard for players. Promotion bonuses are rarely written into contracts and are generally made by the owner to the squad in pre season.

A wage increase is absolutely useless to most of our squad given they will be spending the summer looking for a new club and moving house if we are promoted. Im not sure Coyle, Crooks, Pandur and the gang will be excited about having to decide if they move for football or rot in the reserves just to get a few more quid and a 'promotion on their cv'.

So yes, there is plenty of reason for some players to favour another season in the championship where they will play regular football and not have to move again!
They will get a promotion bonus.

In fact, ironically, I'd say wage increases are less standard than a bonus for the squad. This is ridiculous it's been a genuine debate for a week now. At least you're acknowledging there is a financial incentive which is an improvement on your "no one wants promotion because they'll have to move house"

Completely with you on the small-club mentality that some people adopt, but that's certainly not where I'm coming from.

Simply put, the award is for the Championship Manager of the Season, so how do you quantify that? Surely you have to start with what tools the manager has to work with and what baseline he starts from. Factor in levels of Championship experience (or lack of) and the number of injuries to key players and I just can't see beyond Jak.

Don't forget, the bookies and every gob on a stick had us down as certs for relegation - that alone puts him above every other candidate.
