Yeah can’t quite remember that price but £1.50 etc yeah. Saw the Jam at Brid Spa for £3 and they were flying high in the charts. Sometimes when I see over £100 for a tick I just can’t understand how its got there.
Glad I was born at the right time Phin. I seem to remember I caught it there for the last two years it was open. For the life of me I can't remember who I saw there but it was always a good night.

I used to go and see top bands such as The Clash,Stranglers,Buzzcocks,The Jam etc for £2 in the Glasgow Apollo back in 77,crept up to £2.50 the following year and from memory it ended up at £3 in the early 80's.Bowie came in 78 and charged £4.

Saw Joe Strummer in Edinburgh a month before he passed in 2002 for £12.50 in a small venue that holds 400 or 500 people.

Quite how they've arrived at tickets costing between £100 and £200 is frankly beyond me but at a guess I suspect it's utter greed and the knowledge that people will still pay it.I don't know the figures on how much things cost then as opposed to now in terms of inflation but it simply can't equate to a 50-100 times the price back then?

I'll end this with a warning that if anyone on these threads ever thinks about travelling up to see any bands up in the hydro Glasgow,I'd urge them to think twice as the sound is all over the place and trying to make sense of the inaudible vocals in there is impossible.Paid about £150 for the 2 of us to see Madness, supported by Squeeze in December and walked out just under halfway through the Madness set. That was after spending £80 at the bar on 5 rounds of drinks!!! Factor in a quick Scran and a couple of drinks in a pub up that way and you're in excess of £300.

Imagine just wanting to see some live music and going to
see this Jimmy Hendrix guy because you've heard he's quite a
good guitar player
The first time The Beatles played in Hull, it was at Majestic on Witham and no where near sold out as Hull Fair was on. Ringo Starr crashed their van in Goole when he was driving them back home.

EDIT: I just checked and it was George Harrison driving.
  • The Incident: On February 13, 1963, while driving back from a gig in Hull to Liverpool, George Harrison missed a sharp right turn on Rawcliffe Road in Goole.
  • The Crash: The Ford Temp's 800 van, which contained all four Beatles, their equipment, and staff, ran into a hedge and slid into a grass embankment, coming to a stop against a concrete fence.
  • The Aftermath: The Beatles were attempting to get the van out of the hedge when a local policeman found them and charged Harrison with dangerous driving.
  • Court Appearance: George Harrison later appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court regarding the incident.

It's because the musicians don't earn the same level of money from their music anymore due to streaming/Spotify, so they earn from touring instead - the prices represent this, plus that nowadays, fans are willing to pay for the experience.

In the late 1980s/1990s, most newish bands tried to break even and usually lost money on touring, but did it to promote the music - it's the other way round now. I saw REM at Huddersfield bowl around 1995, who were one of the biggest global bands at the time and tickets were under £15 and it wasn't sold out, so we got tickets on arrival. No chance these days.. changing needs and habits.
