No comments on the facts then?
Cool carry on
It's been debated and pulled apart earlier. No point going there again.
I grew up during the those years, I remember what it was like, far from perfect.
Things are far worse now.
Official statistics are pretty meaningless as so much these days goes undetected, unreported, unsolved, unaddressed.
The social fabric is falling apart.
Drugs, and all that entails, are literally everywhere these days (yes, drugs were around in those earlier decades but nothing like nowadays).
It must be soul destroying being a policeman nowadays; it must feel like they are pissing in the wind with individuals and gangs taking the piss in plain sight.
I won't change your mind, you won't change mine

I know you think you’re been hilariously clever but when this debate came up last time plenty of posters provided stats and evidence to show it was worse in the 80’s and 90’s
So a poster then decided to go back to the 60’s for that perfect time

Policing and Public Perception
  • The 1980s: Society often felt "safer" to many despite rising figures, though this is heavily nostalgic. The 1980s actually had high rates of industrial unrest and inner-city riots.
  • Now: Crime is lower, but public perception often suggests otherwise, fueled by 24-hour news and social media. There is a lower conviction rate for crimes compared to the 1980s.
  • Police Methods: Modern policing relies on technology (facial recognition, extensive CCTV), whereas 1980s policing was more manual and, in some cases, seen as more heavy-handed.

5. Why Did Crime Fall?
  • The 1980s/90s Drug Epidemic: Much of the surge in crime in the 80s was driven by acquisitive crime to fund drug addiction, specifically heroin and crack cocaine.
  • The "Crime Drop": The steady, persistent decline in crime since the mid-90s is attributed to better home/car security, changes in drug use, improved economic conditions
So the 80’s crime was for a completely different reason , it wasn’t a group of young people who decided collectively that any goods in any shop in blatant public was a fair and reasonable target because it’s now not right to prosecute young people for all sorts of reasons that exclude actual blame . Now the drugs can be obtained so much more easily and those young people appear to be ‘given ‘ the funds to aquire it . To be honest that whole ‘report’ has bugger all depth or nuance .
Yet again what it does is excuse anyone of blame so all is rosey. Nothing to see I suppose .

I was listening to LBC discussing the Clapham thing this afternoon. A young ‘muvva’ came on and said it was because there aren’t any youth clubs to play table tennis for all the budding south London balaclava clad Desmond Douglas’s!!
Ah,just the man...

Remember a couple of months age you set up that thread on 'What was the first record you ever bought' or words to that effect? Well,I decided to dig out my old vinyl from the back of the cupboard(lots of old punk stuff,The Clash,Pistols,Buzzcocks,Stranglers stuff alongside other punk bands). I then bought a 'Marley Revolution' record player with speakers and I've spent about £3-£400 on old vinyl records off discogs!!!

Just wanted to thank you for draining down my current account and damaging my hearing :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm

The mods and rockers thing?
Completely different thing and apparently very over exaggerated in the press.
It was different. Loads of mods turning up and wandering around and having a few scraps with rockers. Not looting shops. The damage caused was no different to a normal weekend. What was amazing how in those days so many got word to turn it in Clayton, Margate, Brighton…
First years young people were earning enough to buy scooters and spend a load on fashion. Loved seeing my dad’s lot spluttering with indignation about it and all the analysing on TV programmes.

No one took a knife to the deckchair fight either.

Anyway it's Scarborough for the mods this weekend.

4584 prosecutions of looting in London 1940.

What has that do with Brighton 64? War time was a big different. Clutching at straws to justify the actions of those multicultural feral yobs in London.
Mass disorder with violence and looting of shops has occurred many times in the UK. You and others seem to think it's only black kids/immigrants that do it. That's why you're accused of racism.

Idiot. War time was different. Criminals took advantage of blackouts and bombed shops. They weren’t rampaging down the street terrifying shops full of shoppers. Anyone wanting to accuse me of racism is quite welcome to meet up face to face and do so.

Any examples of violent looting of shops in the 1920s, 1930s, 1950s, 1960s…?
