Watching the game back it was remarkable how, for the disallowed goal, Alan Smith immediately said,
'Well it can't be for offside' then followed up with 'Sunderland have got away with one there'.

When the replays clearly showed it was not only offside but he was blocking the sight of the keeper it was ignored.

When it was clear Newcastle were struggling to match our tactics they started stated trotting out the stats about how many games Newcastle will have played by the end of the season ...

... fair enough but it's not the end of the season, so far there's only been 31 league games <doh>

Alan Smith is a wet wipe mate.

Yeah would have liked that too.

Would have been interesting hearing him explain it like he did goals etc..

I think he disallowed it just took him a little bit to make the decision, usually with var there would be more standing around waiting
I thought it was on the field decision and like you say sorted a lot quicker than usual var decision. I thought it was actually for a foul on the keeper seeing as he bundles him in to the net rather than offside

OUCH …

… it’s true though.

Same goes for Sunderland but we don’t pretend we’re known and admired world wide. It’s laughable when Mags claim they don’t know who some of our players are but pretend they knew all about Thiaw, Woltemade, etc.

And I laughed watching the Mag vlogs who all trotted out the inevitable ‘How did we lose that game, Sunderland aren’t even very good!’ …

… almost every team we’ve beaten have said that.

Fact, the move for our second goal was sublime.

Even then it's the mags' fault for not having the depth of squad for the extra games or to modify the tactics to be less physically taxing.

True but we were able to attract the likes of Xhaka because an invite to KLDs office is a lot more attractive than an invite to Bin Salmans office!:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Just like how Sunderland robbed Sheff Utd in the play-off final …

… by being better prepared and lasting the 90 minutes.

And let’s be honest, how much football have Woltemade, Wissa, Livramento, Batman, Willock, etc actually played …

… yet they all looked exhausted at the end.

I suspect there are psychological and tactical reasons for how Newcastle fold. I can’t remember their excuses, for losing the SOL derby, but that was early in the season and we barely gave them a kick.

Seriously, as we’ve seen with the likes of Brobbey, players want to feel part of something whether that’s a vision, a style or even ‘a family’ as they’re always saying. What can Newcastle players feel part of, in reality they don’t really know who owns the club although they probably think they’re not particularly pleasant people.

I suspect they’re only there for the money to be blunt.

Even that game all the pundits keep saying we were outplayed in the final , when from the 35 minute mark we were clearly the better side.. Heard it said just this week again...

I watched that game half a dozen times and can honestly say we had 70% of the meaningful play. Once we started to up the tempo Sheff Utd had nothing left …

… just like Sunday I never felt we’d lose the game.

I wonder how Newcastle feel that Tonali, their biggest miss in the derby, played almost the entire game in Italy.

I'd have been quite angry if Ballard missed a Sunderland game and, a few days later, was running around in a World Cup game.

I watched that match, and Tonali was all over the place, scoring a cracker to get Italy going. He'll play on Tuesday too. He's like Lazarus!

they didnt manage this game at all. They complain of too many games yet they came at us immediately. An athlete will always do just enough to get through the heats. Did they not for one moment think we were capable of absorbing pressure then get at them as they tired

They routinely blow out of gas mind. It was happening early in the season, even before the CL started.

I don't know what they expect to happen? That first bit is hard to handle and you have to work your way out of it. But running like that has a price on it. Other teams, better than us have had to do the same. But once you do weather the storm, and haven't been spooked by their early, furious running, you end up on top and find a lot of space to play in.

Even us amateurs can see this, but Eddie, supposedly the "best English coach" because they won the Milk Cup and got into Europe a couple of times is unable see it. It will keep happening.

Our half time with RLB changed the tactics.....they had no answers and their weaknesses were exposed. Long may they continue with their Eddie love in.....he's been shown to be bereft of the challenge in front of him.

My youngest just read the Hare and the Tortoise the other day. I should have used this game as the perfect anecdote.
Sadly she leaves the room now when the footy is on complaining I'm too loud.

The mags certainly have a few jokers playing for them...

I'll get my coat...
