If the club thinks there's anyone in the academy remotely capable of stepping up, then it's likely they'll be on the bench on Saturday, only two days before we find out.
Think it started as more of a wider discussion with me n Kalman about why the younger players aren’t getting at least on the bench
I’m not calling them youth players it’s ridiculous makes them sound 14.
But there doesn’t seem to be a way forward for them
It’s easy to say they aren’t good enough but we see other clubs playing theirs all the time
Some clubs just don’t seem to do it
And we are one of them.
And the wider point was what’s the point of our academy then?

As I said earlier in this thread the person I spoke to, who's opinion I respect immensely, thinks our current academy crop is the worst for years.

Apart from McCarthy who would you say should be on the bench for games?

Other clubs may well be 'playing theirs all the time' but do you really expect the manager to be throwing any old ****e onto the pitch just because everyone else is doing it?

If we don't have the players then we dont have them.

This is the worst crop since the year before and the year before that
Did he say when we had a good crop?

As OLM as said, the last decent crop produced two players that made us millions and I think Flemming was in that group too who will have a football league career.

Apart from Ashbee im not sure any of the current group will play football league for long, if at all. The standard is getting higher.

Certainly not been a lot to shout about in the past five years.
If we want to improve this area, which should be a fundamental part of a club like ours, I'd love to see us bring in a proven Academy manager to oversee everything from coaching to scouting. Apart from Leeds the clubs in this area taking kids are all lower league sides with the odd exception. There are good players leaving hull to play for Grimsby academy which shouldn't be happening. Adam Bolders lad is one of them.

A better pathway in the area with development squads leading into the academy would be a start. It means more talent can be taken on board pre-academy. Give them training gear, give the parents hope, make them feel part of something and get them coached by your people early. Not having Lincoln and Grimsby taking kids because our academy is full.

Seems there are one or two in touch with some things... the Academy, is the lack of success, lack of finding anyone to step up, down to the proverbial needle in a haystack, poor section, poor coaching, poor pathway? Does it cost a lot annually.... haven't Brentford binned theirs off...?

Jim just answered most above, I was typing as he posted.

So for five years various managers have gone to the academy manager
Need a cm rw lb to cover for a few games? Who’s ready?
Academy manager: nah they’re all ****

Manager: ah ok carry on keep up the good work

Brentford changed their minds, they've built a fantastic new academy facility.

Brentford are also sandwiched in a very tough position to recruit better kids from, then keep hold of them until they reach first team level.

Hull is a much more local place. Academy is an essential part of the club regardless of how many it’s brought through in the last couple of years. It’s not so long ago everyone who knows much about it was singing the praises of a few of them (Ash, Coyle and Brown) how much of that is down to their families in the former two I don’t know.

Also didn’t McCarthy just arrive here in the summer? Don’t really count as an academy product, he’s just a young player we signed.
