But Dowell has done zero, zilch, nada, nothing to show that he deserves a place in front of Slater, Amir, Crooks... and without sounding like a broil ken record and I do, the only time we have not conceded 2's or 3's when Giles hasn't been available is when Famewo has played... and yes McNair could do a decent job there...
I spoke with a Rangers season ticket holder about Dowell. He was less than complimentary about him and said he was glad to get rid.

Beaten out of sight there by a team set up from the first whistle to fight for their lives, and it has to be said, City didn't seem to fancy it from the very first vicious tackle on Slater inside the first minute. West Brom bullied us from there on and we rolled over and let them.
The important first goal was another gift from City, another under hit kick from Pandur and not even an effort to save the shot as though he knew he'd cocked up. The sending off was ridiculous and harsh, also totally avoidable and from there we we were a mess.
At times West Brom looked as though they had 15 players to our ten and fully deserved the points. We were poor all game and got what we deserved.
Also the home fans loved it, as they would, probably their biggest and best win of the season. I felt sorry for our away following, City gave them nothing to cheer today.
Just one comment on the different commentors. The WBA pair said the sending off was a yellow card at best, Dave Burns said Hughes was deservedly sent off.
...
I used to like Burns commentating. Now, he does my fkn head in.

Got comments from relatives - Drameh should be left back to stop Wallace , 4 at the back to slow a decent midfield and give the baggies something to worry about with Millar on the wing . We need to occupy the opposition .
I think Serge probably planned to to see out to half time then do the grab second half but got the formation wrong .

Id like the manager and staff to go back to what got us in the top 6 in the first place. 4231, outscore the opposition. We have plenty attacking options and a few injuries at fullback position. Im sure if Coyle or Drameh have to sit a game or 2 out, we can put a centre back at full back for a game or so. Im pretty sure Hughes could do a job and McNair has played there too.

Going to a defensive 5 at the back against the 2nd from bottom is just negative. We have fantastic away form this season and they are where they are, not sure what we had to be worried about. If anything match their 442 formation and play like for like.

A few ppl are saying Sergei is starting to get things wrong recently and I would agree. There's only a handful of games left now, just go for it, 4231, get balls in the box for McBurnie to attack and with Gelhardt, Crooks and a few others we'll always be a threat to anyone.

Regarding the 3 at the back, with hindsight it didn’t work for us today but I didn’t think it was a negative set up. A winger in one wing back position with 3 advanced forwards. I thought it was a very attacking team on paper.
It was obvious within 5 minutes or so that it wasn’t working and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one voicing that in the crowd. The midfield was outnumbered and overrun, either through playing three centre-backs or through trying to shoehorn in certain players (eg Gelhardt). Very early doors I think he should have brought on Hadziahmetovic and taken off Ajayi once it became obvious it wasn’t working - which was well before their goal. I also think we need Joseph on from the start. I hope there was still illness in the camp as an excuse for the flat performance. Otherwise I think we are ****ed. Soton will overtake someone, and at the moment it looks like us.

We absolutely have to beat Wednesday and Oxford. The last six games look incredibly tough and we look incredibly ****.

Not quite sure where the DOGSO is to send Hughes off. Criminal pass from Pandur for their first but nothing new there.

No, I was just wondering if the WBA commentators had the benefit of replays before deciding on the validity of the red card. I don't believe Burnsy did.
Burnsy doesn't get a replay, he's doing radio coverage and watching it live - tbh, he's said it often enough.

Certainly a day to forget and one that needs quickly erasing from the memory.

I felt the gaffer got it wrong, not often he does, but the set-up just looked out of balance.

WBA were just the better side, and seemed more up for it than we did.

Just need to sack this one off, regroup and put things right against Wednesday.

Just in terms of reffing, we had some decisions go for us early in the season. Even though they did, it was still shocking reffing. These last few weeks there’s been some really really poor decisions go against us. The refereeing in general in this league is an absolute disgrace. I get that it’s job that’s far from easy, but these blokes are professionals on a pretty decent wage making comically bad errors multiple times a game. With how much the game has improved as time has gone on, why have reffing standards stood still or possible even gone backwards?

I think Serge in his interviews, not just yesterday is trying to keep a lid on his goalkeeper frustrations, the inability to control a ball, lack of concentration, injuries, etc and as importantly the number of games. I think its been a total shock to him, even though he signed up for it. Will be prepared to go again come August.?

If you park the table positions JEX, if it was game 3 as an example, you'd have expected to lose. They simple have better players than us unfortunately, not in every position but in general.

I was thinking actually of a film some might have seen, cant remember what it was and I think it reflects where we are at the moment. It was a steam ship and it started off well, then started to run out of fuel, so they started to pull the ship to bits to burn to keep it going.
