Jones may decide to save what's left of his fading credibility and jump ship in the next few weeks.
Unless he has a cast iron guarantee from the owners that he's safe, and will be next season even if we are back in L1.
Does he really want to go through another 3rd tier promotion push though?
If Cardiff go up and we go down ?

NJ made a point of saying that no player would be signed without his approval. It hasn't gone well. Academe, Hernandez Roussillon total failures. Tanto, not featuring, Apter-not featuring. Doc-not featuring. Kelman, our most expensive signing-not starting. Bell-injury prone. Coventry-not starting. Carey-in and out.

I was wrong about Nathan Jones.
He has now surpassed what Lee Bowyer achieved, and matched what Chris Powell did in 2012-13.
Charlton will be staying in the Championship for another season.

My lack of faith in Jones is something I'm quite ashamed of now.
I never doubted Powell, and I never doubted Bowyer. I don't recall ever losing faith in either of them.

When it comes to NJ I don't think I ever had faith in him to start with, never mind losing that faith.
I'm sorry Nathan.
You deserve better from a lifelong supporter.
You haven't let the Club down. I have.

The last two words are erroneous. You haven’t at all.

On another thread Jones is being compared to other managers, so I've carried the discussion over to this thread. It's unfair to make comparisons with Bowyer and SCP based purely on how long they kept us in the Championship. SCP had us promoted with a club record number of points then finishing 10th in his first season before Douchebag started interfering, replacing Yann with the likes of Anil Koc and Polish Pete, Coco the Clown etc. Bowyer had to operate under a transfer embargo- compare that to the business NJ has done this January. He also had his talisman deserting the team in its hour of need. Different managers, successful at different times. It would be fairer to compare Jones to Appleton, from whom he took over. That gives you the measure of what he is achieving.

If we try to take circumstances into account then it's impossible to compare any Charlton manager to any other.

For sheer achievement with all the odds stacked against him the prize has to go to Lennie Lawrence.
If success is hitting your target for a season, Jones has done that.
Next season - a different target. The minimum should be one place higher than we finish this season, in my view.

I think the league table above is a very good indicator.

IF we could do the same for our historic managers it would be a fair comparison imo, as squad value compared to league position is a fair indicator of manager value. Unfortunately I don’t think that detailed information is out there.

I do remember that CP effectively bought the league 1 title as we had more money and a much better squad than our rivals (of course it still requires a good manager and a committed team, as negatively evidenced by Leicester, Norwich, West Brom, Sheff Utd and Southampton in the current season). From memory CP was operating with the smallest squad value when we went down and was shafted by events outside his control.

In contrast NJ didn’t have anywhere near the highest squad value when he got us promoted (of course with a much lower points total) but considering where we were when he took over, our promotion is a very big achievement. To follow that up so far this season with a currently 18th place on the second lowest squad value is again a very big achievement. I really don’t understand what those criticising him expect on our budget. Perhaps they are, as I’ve alluded to before, just uneducated oafs who don’t know as much about how football works as they think they do.

Is the ‘style’ of football great ? No. But I’d rather us be beating teams like Stoke, Leicester, Watford, Sheff Utd, Ipswich and West Brom in the Championship than losing to the likes of Burton, Wycombe and Stockport in league 1.

Jones Out ? - Boll*cks.

Ah, says it all.

Although to be fair to DP, he isn’t an uneducated oaf at all, more of an educated drama queen <whistle>

And I’ve just read the comments on the first page of this thread. All that can be said is that they haven’t aged well ! <laugh><laugh><laugh>

I should’ve known this would happen……..

History has been re-written as usual and the “Jones Out” thread over on ITWV has been deleted. Only 15 months too late <doh>

The 'Jones Out' thread on Not606 Charlton can stand as a memorial to all the lost rants on the deceased ITTV one.

You wouldn't catch anyone deleting threads on this forum <whistle>
I’ve never understood why so many threads get deleted over there.

As long as everyone just gives their opinion and doesn’t demean themselves with swearing, threats, personal abuse and insults then I don’t see…………………ah, hold on a minute

It is not a forum, it is Ivor's plaything.
