Massive bollock dropped not bringing in a better keeper, in both windows but especially January when we knew Pandur wasnt having a good season. Surely there's a 3rd choice prem keeper we could have given game time to? I can see us signing another 2 keepers again this summer.

Ah well, I guess that makes up for him being bang average most of the season.
I find it's much easier to be man of the match when the entire team is set up to minimise goal mouth action as we were last game. It's why he looked so good last year too.

To be fair Syd he was one of our best players last season. His distribution was limited but he rarely misplaced a kick, he was confident and the back 4 trusted him. For whatever reason he's gone to absolute pot this season and looks a complete different player. The only thing he's got going for him now is he's a decent shot stopper. But as Roy Keane would say... thats his job.

One of the best players in a team that stayed up on goal difference though

Pandur was better last season, undoubtedly. He hardly put a foot wrong all season and that was what made him player of the year for us, because the rest of them were total ****e for 90% of it. I still thought a lot of people were getting too carried away, he was good and steady but not spectacular. I actually think he’s pulled off more spectacular game changing saves this season but they’ve been cancelled out by a long string of game changing howlers.

A proper championship quality 1st/2nd choice keeper will be imperative for the summer, to actually give us a viable option and to push Pandur to be better. The goalkeeper position needs to be open and properly competed for by 2 players. If we do go up a better first choice will be needed. In my opinion.

I don’t know how true it is but we’re apparently looking at Kayserispor’s keeper for the summer. Jakirović will know him from his time there. For what it’s worth, the guy who told me this was also the one who told me we were interested in Hadžiahmetović a month before the news broke publicly.

If your goalkeeper is very active then they will have the opportunity to make good saves now and then. Our team last year was awful so the keeper ended up being a major option for player of the year. The best teams will never have a goalkeeper winning such an award as they won't see as much action.

The defence has to be improved but Acun's priority has always been the midfield and wingers.

Crazy thing to do when we have one of the best keepers in the division.

I know you're trying to look cleaver but as per you're failing and just making yourself look a bell end, but we should absolutely be looking at GK just as good as our no1 or even better if funds allow. Competition for places should always be there and we should never stop looking to improve. I've being saying it fir absolutely ages now, pandur doesn't need replacing, he needs genuine competition and then may the best man win

I wonder how much money Dowell is on. Some people questioned why we only gave him an 18-month contract but I think the club have played a blinder with that contract length. Best case scenario is we sell him in the summer to whoever will take him. Worst case scenario is we pay him for another 12 months and that’s it.

I can’t believe how **** he is. He doesn’t seem to have any redeemable qualities. In my head, he was a lazy but technically-gifted playmaker with a good shot on him and who could keep the ball and unlock a defence to supply our forwards. He’s worse than that. First touch is crap, can’t keep the ball and doesn’t link up well with our forwards on top of being slow, not athletic and lazy. At least Akintola is quick and tries.

We could sub off a player and not bring anybody on and it would be less damaging than bringing on Dowell. Playing with 10 men is preferable than having him on the pitch.

To be devil's advocate. People had similar criticisms of Giles.

Don't think Dowell has played a lot of football. He may be a dud, but perhaps with a good preseason he could be a useful player.

Last season he was playing behind a well established CB pairing, perhaps he felt more confident then? Perhaps they gave him more confidence?

Agree. He’s perhaps had an hour of league football for us across six or seven games. It’s crassly bonkers to write him off already.

He’s actually played three hours in total, over nine games and he’s been monumentally ****e so far.
I referred to his cameo Vs QPR as the worst cameo in a city shirt in recent history so I've no love for him....but....3 hours isn't that long on the pitch, esp across 9 games, and whilst I CBA to research it is assume that most of his time on the pitch has come when we're chasing a result either drawing at home or losing when we've been up against teams low block playing on the break, not the easiest scenario to play in. He's got a lot to do to turn it round but can't be written off yet

That last statement is bollocks and Akintola has been hammered all season and barely played - he does one good thing at Preston and he’s exonerated. Dowell needs to get minutes to get match sharp same as Akintola , but bit part players are that for a reason . Given more time on the pitch we will find out . I mean another on here has decided Collyer is ‘clumsy’ already These motivational observations are not doing any player any good !
